DH on China Southern
I've looked at earlier posts. Anyone got recent experience (good or bad) re: China Southern long haul? I'm looking to do DL FF and travel from NYC area non stop to PVG and China Southern is the DL carrier from the area. It looks like they have a first class but you can't book it as DL. Is this true? Is there service better than DL Business class? Anyone have issues with getting DL FF, do they make it a hassle or does booking as DL make it seamless (like AF has been when booked as DL)?

Run quickly in the other direction! Flew Business on China Southern awhile back from LAX-CAN. Crummy business class on 777, no power ports, crummy food and NO MILES! They did not put in my DAL number and when I submitted the paperwork DL turned me down twice--said the ticket was not eligible.

Chinese Gulag
I flew their "business class" SYD-CAN once, and it was beneath deplorable.
In my case it was on an A330, with get this, five (5) Chinese pilots shoved in the cockpit (are there that many seats?), which would cycle in and out of the cockpit to smoke the whole way.
I think some of the food moved, the beer was warm and coach was filled with what appeared to be a Chinese leper colony.
Sooooooo glad on so many levels we're out of CAN for good.
Never again.

Flew Business from CDG to CAN on them. I agree with those who said the food and service were lousy. The food was barely edible and you had to almost tackle a flight attendant to get a second cup of coffee or glass of wine. The only good thing was that the seat reclined to almost flat so I was able to sleep well. In the flat position, the bed was not very long but I'm vertically challenged so it was sufficient. I did finally get the Delta miles but I had to fax them both the receipt and boarding pass to get them.

Add on to previous
I forgot to mention the joy of riding with 200 smelly vagabonds packed like sardines for 15-20 minutes on the airport bus that took us from one of the gates at the terminal to some outlying parking spot at CDG.

Flew C class CAN-LAX on a 777 in Jan. Bused us out to a remote parking spot in torrential rain because an international ocean crossing doesn't deserve a gate in Guangzhou! WhiskeyTangoHotel? Food was comparable to Y class on Singapore or Cathay. FA's were over their collective heads. English was poor. Had to pull up the seat to get to the seat belt buckle and you don't want to know what it looked like under the seat. Unless the $$$ is the big issue.......work around China Southern.
