FDX Meet and Greets... no more?

I have heard from several sources that the current meet and greet system is going away... anyone heard the same and is there any truth to this?

^^^^^ A pilot on the property with a seniority number who wants to sponsor one guy/gal brings him/her to MEM to meet with an ACP or the SCP. They all meet -- sponsor, sponsoree, ACP and review the prospect's resume; they shoot the bull, grip and grin, talk about how they're all God's gift to flying, and then it's all over in about 10 minutes.
If you're lucky, you go on a list for review and if you pass muster with the other ACP's, you might get called for an interview later.

I don't think this system is going away. It's been in place for 25+ years and works well. It's a chance for the mgt types to meet with prospective new hires without costing the company any money....and is usually the only way to get an interview.

In the past it was informal and not required to get an interview. Personally I think it's a waste of time. If somebody is already sponsering you, they are vouching for you and if you meet the requirements to get hired here, well that's all you should need to do. Let the people in charge of hiring figure out who they should call. They will have all the info they need in front of them. The interview process will weed out most of the undesirables. We'll see what happens. Hopefully the next CP will do away with the meet and greets as a requirement for an interview.

The referral system won't go away, but I sure hope the requirement to come to Memphis for the pre-interview meet and greet will go away. I never did one, and I didn't think they started until about 2 years ago. I don't see the need to put that burden on a candidate just to listen to the sponsor tell the ACP how great they are.
