Default ITs the ACP board that needs to go...

So I bring a guy into JL office for a meet-n-greet over a year ago and he likes what he sees and says you'll be on the good list, just wait for an interview...I have seen him since and he still says...the same thing.

Stopped by 2 ACP's offices to see whats up and they said the same thing..."who are you???" Since I was not bunk mates with them on the boat my guy, JL's thumbs up on the meet-n-greet, and his 3 recomendations still will not get him through the ACP review board for an interview...LAME

Ditto. If you don't personally know the ACP's and don't live in MEM your opportunities to get a meet-n-greet for your candidate are less. This procedure as it stands has a tendency to build the "good ole boy flying club" for the guys with the inside connections. I've been trying to get a guy in for a meet-n-greet for some time now. I have been told no meet-n-greets until after the new year. Then through the grapevine I'm hearing that some people are getting a select few guys through when there is no official meet-n-greets going on. In the Federal Civil Service system which I'm intimately familiar with, this would cost you your job. I know this isn't the CS so don't come back and slam me on that. I'm just making an observation of our hiring practices and how some pilots here have personal connections with management that gives an unfair advantage to certain prospective candidates.

If you eliminate the meet and greets you take the crew force out of the equation, and I don't think anybody likes that system. They'll keep working on it and make it better. It's just a tough nut and it might take a while to crack. You don't want to get rid of the program all together, just Ned to refine it and make it more user friendly. If you have any suggestions I'm sure I can get them passed on to the right folks. Seriously. Maybe I'll start a thread on that one.

Here's mine again: a monthly cattle call at a restaurant or hotel. Tables set up for ACP's to do the face-to-face. Everybody gets a number at the door. While you wait you chat with your sponsor and everybody else and eat. Turn it into a positive experience, sort of a "commander's call."

Make sure you announce the date early enough for people to bid around. Maybe set up some sort of an internet sign up sheet (NO phone call required - I was in Asia on the last one).

If you do it once a month, the first ones will be huge, then eventually it will tail off to something manageable.

It was my impression that Jack really pushed the M&G's in response to some of our accidents. The goal is excellent and I support it fully. It just needs a little tweaking....

I respectfully disagree. As I mentioned in the other post, I have sponsored 5 guys over the past 4 years. In 2003 I was able to sponsor a guy by walking his resume into JL's office and talking to JL about him a couple of times when he was jumpseating. Guy got an interview as soon as they started up again in 04.

Next two guys were at the same time, I was only the primary sponsor on one. I walked both resumes into JL, we discussed them both, he asked me who my number one guy was. The other guy had his primary (and some others) go in on his behalf. Both of those guys got interviews.

None of those 3 ever came to Mempho until their interview.

Over the past year and a half I have been the secondary sponsor (just website inputs) on three guys, and was the co-primary on one of them just to go in and get the meet and greet. Another guy had to attend the meet and greet with the candidate because I was on a trip and he was really the primary anyway. Interestingly enough, two of those guys are still waiting to interview and one got hired.

In my opinion, the first method worked just fine, much better than the forced march in to Mempho for the m&g. Maybe JL and the other CPs were inundated, I don't know, but he never seemed to mind me coming in so long as I made an appointment. Evidently the number of folks wanting to sponsor pilots has gotten too big to manage.

I just think that the recs from the sponsors and the quals of the candidates should get the interview without having to pre-interview. I would certainly do 5 interviews if that is what it took to get the job, but I don't really think it should be necessary. The interviewers should be able to tell if the applicant is a good fit, let the ACPs spend their valuable time working on other issues.

Being in Mempho certainly is an advantage, but again, if you really want to sponsor somebody you should be willing to make a trip into the planet and make the time to see your ACP or JL.

I think you can continue to accept input from the crewforce without having the meet and greet system.

Just my opinion and I thank you for asking the question on the other thread.
