Called his office today to enquire about my status and his secretary indicated FDX gave them short notice about not renewing contract,,,less than 1 month notice,,she did not mention him retiring,,hmmmm..??? Secretary says 120+ FDX crew are in my position re; regaining medical status. Hope we don't fall thru the cracks during transition. Any suggestions....

I spoke with him this morning. He's retiring. His wife's been trying to get him to retire for five years. He loves the work, but he says it's time.

It's an interesting phenomenon what's going on these days, in that a lot of doctors, who have years and years of experience, are starting to retire. The other day I had my annual appointment with my oncologist, a guy I've been with for close to 20 years, and he told me that he was retiring in August. He said a bunch of his peers are doing the same thing. Should be interesting for both the doctors coming up as well as their patients. I guess it's too bad that the government didn't institute an Age 65 (or 70) rule for physicians.....Just kidding.....Doctors, like everyone else should be able to retire when they want...Just one person's opinion.

They are also the guys who provided that supplemental life insurance before ALPA took over the administration of it. Interestingly enough, when it was under Harvey Watt, when you were ready to retire, you could have converted your group policy to an individual one. Now, with ALPA, you can't. Now that sucks.
