What are the guidelines for checking the income box for the expense report? I remember the FCIF about it, and I check the box most of the time when in doubt, because the FCIF made it seem like any travel to/from home, and/or to/from domicile was to count as income. How do you figure it out more clearly?

I concur. I also check the box for ground transportation to/from home to that same flight (between home/domicile with a checked box). Those seem to be the only two expenses I ever find myself checking the box.

I have bought a MEM to home ticket and not checked the box when it is part of an overall deadhead home and MEM is just the most convenient transit city. Example: Operate MEM-ELP Saturday with a hotel and then deadhead Sunday. Bank sucks. Stay on FedEx and jumpseat to MEM, use the bank to go MEM to home. Still part of the company directed travel to me.
