Cdg ramp
#21
I've never figured out where it's written that we're supposed to have our bags loaded up by anyone from the company/ramp. Can anyone post the FOM reference? Making a big deal out of this is a pointless waste of time, although not unexpected on this board. My solution is to carry my own if no one else does and go on with my day. The day I can't lift a 30-40 pound bag up a couple of flights of stairs may be the day I should think about calling it quits. Of course there's a few out there that are carrying said weight around their waist. Maybe they're the ones with the debilitating handicap.

Do you carry the ice chest and the catering up the stairs too? How about the coffee jug? Do you go down to the bottom of the stairs and get the haz paperwork? Do you walk to the jet instead of taking the bus because you're a tough guy? Or maybe it's somebody else's job...like carrying up the bags? Death by a thousand paper cuts my friend.
I've read many of your posts during the years, most smart and logical, but I think with this one, you're going off the deep end. With this in mind, let me answer your questions.
1. The ice chest is part of catering, addressed in the CBA chapter 5.
2. The 777 has coffee makers. For aircraft that don't, CBA chapter 5.
3. Haz paperwork is part of the DG inspection. Presented by ramp agent. DG is loaded on the aircraft. I don't have to go down the stairs to see the haz. FOM chapter 10.
4. If it's allowed to walk, I don't mind. In most places it's not allowed.
5. So far no quote of current policy to get our bags loaded onto aircraft. Just anecdotal carryover from the Tiger days. Like I said. If someone takes my bags onto the airplane, great. Otherwise I'll take them up. What's the suggestion? Get into a Mexican standoff with a ramper and delay a flight? Choose your battles. You have to be able to back up your actions these days. Maybe we need to negotiate for this perk and put it in the contract. It's not a matter of being a tough guy, just not crippled, yet.

What are you guys doing blocking in with left over catering? At some point the company will realize that it's loading too much food and drink if it comes down to pilots complaining about rampers raiding the coolers. Make it part of the decent checklist to ensure that all catering is used, opened, fondled or otherwise in not new condition. A two birds kinda thing
