You are correct, I was looking at the wrong section (8A). Unfortunately, this section (8C) does not help, as GT has cherry picked the East Coast city (ATL) that does not have FC on ANY carrier direct to Destination. So, I can't remedy by going FC, DIRECT, on another carrier. Saves the company money - sure. Being an honest broker under the CBA, and a "just culture", "care about the employee" move--I'll leave that open...

If you are deviating it doesn't really matter where the company "cherry picked" you to fly through or to. You are traveling from somewhere and if they offer service under the terms of the contract they will book. Comes down to if you got enough in your bank to cover it or are willing to cover the difference. If they won't book it, grieve it. If you don't get what the the contract entitles you to and don't grieve it then don't complain cause that isn't the union's fault it's the person's who doesn't know the contract and won't file a grievance to protect it.
Is there any other cargo carrier out there that gets business or first class DH's? Just curious.

This situation is unique to an over 16 hour duty day DH, like ATL-DXB. The contract allows a pilot who was not booked in first class on such a DH to deviate and find another carrier who offers first class. This deviation ticket cost can exceed the accepted fare for the pairing and the company will cover the extra cost. The catch is that the city pair for the deviation ticket must be the same as the scheduled DH and it must be a non-stop flight. So, it really does matter which city the company chooses, in this case.
Since Delta is the only carrier that flies ATL-DXB and their 777s don't have first class, he's SOL.

I am going through the same scenario right now. CDG-PVG on Air China. I was booked and confirmed first class, then later switched to business. Corptrav said that discounted first was no longer available. First question is how is Air China on this routing? Second question is why did neither fare equate the published accepted fare, they were both higher? Third question is how much longer are we going to tolerate this cloak and dagger, completely invisible process behind the curtain? And fourth question why are we still dealing with it years and years after the problem surfaced?

(if you're asking why they're on the pairing DH, probably because the contract doesn't say they can't be.
)2- Because our accepted fares are published much too far in advance and then the fares go up by they time the tickets are purchased.
3- At least until the next contract is signed.
4- Contractual language (or lack thereof).
You're in a slightly different situation since your duty day on that DH appears to be under 16 hours (flight time seems to be ~11 block hours).
If I'm wrong and it is an over 16 duty day, you could get an email from corp travel, deviate, buy a FC ticket on Air France and it wouldn't matter what the accepted fare was.

Deviate take Emirates CGG-DXB-PVG, my guess is it will come in under the bank. Take the 2pm out of CDG grab the transit hotel, have breakfast in the first class lounge in DXB and take the late morning flight to PVG instead of the early morning that leaves about two hours after the CDG arrival.
