I fly the 747-200, were can you buy the converter to go from the modern 2 plug (for my telex) to the 5 pin plug thats on the plane? I see a few that are for Airbus will this work?

"Airbus Adapter" = phone jacks to XLR connector (the XLR connector is that 5 pin plug - pretty standard audio stuff)

Will it work? You betcha!

If it's a standard XLR, you may be able to find something at RadioShack. XLRs are pretty common in concert production.

Sure you could go to Radio Shack, but your going to have to search far and wide to get the jack for the headset microphone, those are not to my knowledge widely commercially available. Add on to that your going to need the cable, which it would be wise to get fully shielded, which is a little harder to source as well. Now you also need to know what the pinouts are, (not that difficult). After all that you can put it together. If you don't have a heat gun for the shrink tubing (yeah you could use a match but then you'll burn it) or a soldering iron then you'll have to purchase those. If you have not done this kind of stuff before there will be a bit of a learning curve. Oh yes, additionally you will need wire strippers, diagonal cutters, and solder. A solder vacuum and solder wick would be handy to help fix your inevitable screwups.

Now after you play with all the dinky connections on the XLR you can bring it out to the plane and see if you fabricated it correctly, hopefully it will work, otherwise back to the drawing board!

It's so much easier to just buy one. Do a web search on "Airbus Adapter" and you'll find more links than you can possibly stand.
