Default FedEx - Death Benefits

Sorry for the bummer topic but I am trying to make an "in case I die sheet" for my wife...

If an active FedEx pilot dies, our dependents will receive:
Basic Life Insurance
Optional Life Insurance
Basic AD&D - if it was an accident
Optional AD&D - if it was an accident

Social Security

Other Insurances you may have

Any thing I'm missing?

Yeah, a ton of things, like being able to prove that she (or he) actually was your spouse (in other words, your spouse needs to know where your marriage license is.) As well, if you don't have one already, you need to get in touch with FedEx ALPA and have them send you an "ALPA FedEx MEC Surviving Spouse Guide, which details all those FedEx related benefits you've mentioned and one that was talked about in an earlier thread, specifically, the FedEx Survivor's Income Benefit, also known as the SIB plan. This plan provides your spouse regular monthly income, offset by any monies received from the FedEx Pension Plan, until his or her death or remarriage.

I believe that ALPA (National) offers some guidance material on this issue, but can't quite remember what it's called. This should be an interesting topic and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

If you were Mayday Mark, asking for your wife, I'd suggest that the first thing she would need to do is Party, Party, Party!

Default Casualty Assistant Liaison

You probably know that you can designate a Casualty Assistant Liaison in VIPS to contact/help your spouse through the benefit maze. Maybe you could/should give your CAL your pertinent info to make it easier on your loved ones ...

And like the earlier poster said ... Ming Lowe is the Union rep who volunteers to help your family during the REALLY DIFFICULT times. He's a good guy for the job.

I have used this guide for years and attach it to an email to my dependents once a year with updated info. It is not completely up to date, so you might want to go through it and update some of the info:

Take a look at the Pilot Benefit Book. There is a chapter called "What To Do When." Great place to start. I built a guide with all account numbers, passwords, balances (I update it monthly), lawyers phone number, etc. Just in case we both buy it at the same time the kids will have someplace to start. The kid that lives locally has the other key to the safe deposit box and is on the sign in list so they can get at the wills, trust documents, insurance policies, etc. Also they have a power of attorney (both durable and medical) so they can decide to pull the plug on us or pay the bills if they don't pull the plug. Also will need access to funds until the insurance pays out (from experience, 6 to 8 weeks.)
Social Security is sort of an "if" thing. If you have dependent children you get a benefit. If your spouse is caring for the children, she gets a benfit. If the kids are grown and gone and the spouse is not yet at full retirement age, there is no benefit until they reach the full retirement age (either 66 or 67). Maybe kick up the insurance to cover this gap.

On a related subject ... I lowered my Optional Life Insurance assuming that I had until the Nov. 6th deadline to change it back (or change it to anything else for that matter). It turns out that is not the case. The very nice benefits lady I spoke with this morning (I called because I had several questions) told me that the Life Insurance benefit changes are immediate and changeable ANY time of year!*? How would we know that? It's on the same menu with all the other annual benefits changes?

She was nice enough to change it back to my previous selection and, in the end, I probably will lower my optional coverage to the lower amount ... but a word to the wise ... select carefully, your selection "might" not be undoable (is that a word?)

Undoable? Yes, I think that's how your wife described you!
