ALPA lowers dues, effective 01-14

Busboy, calling your fellow pilots dolts, which you do quite often for some imagined offense against your particular way of thinking is much less than optimal.

Dolts is exactly what we are if we believe:
"Defeated two (and counting) attempts to tax our employer-provided health care benefits; such a tax would dramatically increase our tax burden, cutting our take home income and irreparably damaging our ability to save."

Whiners and morons and dolts....Oh no!!!
My reference to dolts was directed at all of the FDX professionals complaining about the .05% ALPA dues reduction and how, in their angry and misinformed little minds, it was actually going to increase our dues.
Carry on.

Perhaps if ALPA communicated in a more clear and concise manner, you wouldn't consider me a "dolt".
I asked some questions and I got some answers.
Sorry if my questions were too "doltish" for you.
So, all this time I have been paying dues on ALL of my gross, and a bunch of other airlines have not, and I am supposed to feel good about this?
At least give me credit for reading the ALPA emails and trying to understand what they are saying.
I am on some other boards where you can ignore certain persons. Perhaps we need that feature on this board. You can ignore me, and I can do the same for you. Then you won't have to put up with my uninformed comments.

And my reference was to the clear concise method of ALPA communication that is never misleading neither does it overestimate the "value" returned for a PAC contribution.

ALPA DISCOURAGES RETIREMENT SAVING – TOUTS AS RATE CUT
Herndon, October 18 -The 44th Board of Director’s meeting of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l closed today. Of note was the presentation of Agenda Item #17 to eliminate the exemption from dues of pilot wage deferrals into 401(k) or Canadian RRSP plans (the exemption currently applies if such a plan is the only pension plan within a given pilot group). The original proposal as approved by the Executive Board and subject to approval by a 2/3 vote of the Board of Directors, was to eliminate the exemption effective January 1, 2014.
Flying in the face of ALPA’s long held beliefs, representatives of several of the largest carriers voted overwhelmingly to stick it to their weakest, lowest compensated brothers; while securing a rate cut for themselves. One representative, speaking under condition of anonymity, stated: “Sure some of these pilots only make $26K per year, so what? When you’re only making 26 grand, how much extra are you really paying? Beside, do you know how much they save by sleeping in their cars in the employee lot? It’s about time these free-loaders pay their fair share! Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to go hit the links.”
A spokesman for the bargaining unit noted that ALPA was pleased to do their part to lower these parking lot dwellers’ tax burden by raising their dues. “Yes, it is going to cost them slightly more to contribute to their 401(k), but by eliminating this exemption we are raising the itemized deductions our members enjoy. After all, the name of the game when it comes to 401(k) is tax savings, right?” When asked if he expected any pushback from the members of these smaller carriers, he replied: “What can they do about it? They’re lucky we allow them here in the first place; but no, I don’t expect to hear any complaints from the kiddie table. It’s a moot point anyway. We are going to headline it as a dues rate cut. Nobody reads the past the headline. If they still don’t like it, they can stop contributing to their 401(k), or get themselves a B plan.”

I'll bet those parking lot dwellers reps were swilling the same single malt at the bod meeting as the big boys reps. Of course they should pay by the same rules. We at alpa only like redistribution in our Senators and Presidents.

LAG we get it, you Hate ALPA.
What I don't get it. is Are you mad because ALPA is now making everyone pay the exact Same rate?
Are you mad that ALPA is lowering the effective dues rate 1.90?
I know, I know, you don't give to the PAC which is where the money which goes to Senators comes from ....and if we didn't have agency shop you could quit and cut your due rate by 100%

OK, I was trying to read this from the ALPA site.
It sounds like to me, that "unless you don't have another retirement plan", your 401K will now be subject to ALPA dues, where in the past, it wasn't.
Can someone list for me all of of the ALPA airlines that this applies to?
I.E. Are FedEx pilots the only ones that will pay ALPA tax on their 401K money, while the rest of our ALPA "brothers" get a dues reduction at OUR EXPENSE?
Do they think we are that stupid?
If this is true, than it is high time we left ALPA! Why should we pay more than everyone else? Is ALPA now in favor of "income redistribution"?
Can someone tell me where I can buy one of those "CIVILIAN" lanyards?
Is this what they mean by trying to build UNITY?

Giving money to a politician is a lot like chemo, you hope the side effects dont kill you before it kills the cancer. Who we give 80% of our money to will probably cost us more in the long term anything we gain short term.
Dont really care about the rates, I was not the one that brought it up. Reduction from 1.95 to 1.90 meh. Raise it upto 2.0 and exempt anyone making below the poverty rate for all I care.
