Default UPS Purchasing Air Canada B767-300's?

Hot off the rumour mill here at UPS, the fleet acquisition manager has said that we are buying all of Air Canada's -300's. Supposedly the entire fleet of 30+. Take this one and run with it

Will this mean that the 8's are going to retire, or do you think it is additional lift.

I read in a forum on airliners.net that they're also taking the -200s and that Air Canada has a number -300s on lease from other airlines. Is this true they're taking the -200s too and does the lease make a difference?

I would imagine since this is purely rumor, no one can answer your question.

Hopefully UPS will keep their DC-8's. Next to the B-757, the DC-8, especially the -73's are about the coolest looking jets around. I especially like UPS's 8's livery, with the long brown stripe. That's what a commercial jet should look like. And it's a great cargo jet. I enjoyed all my time on that aircraft when I flew for UPS, with the exception of during wintertime, what with no APU, it got cold in that cockpit. I still enjoy seeing UPS's DC-8's, especially watching them takeoff. They are a beautiful jet. That was the plane that took me over to South Vietnam in 1967, and the one that brought me home in 1969. I just loved that plane.

Not to hijack this thread, but what aircraft do you guys think is the nicest/prettiest/coolest/best jets around?

I agree on the -8. I love flying it and you are right, next to the 757, and I'll add in the 747, it is one sweet looking airplane!

This isn't as strange as some may think, the 767-200's will be replacements for the DC-8 over the next few years. The 8 will be around for at least 6 more years, but with the 787 coming on line in the future, there will be a glut of used 767's out there. If UPS utilizes the used 767's on domestic routes only (what the 8 is flying now) they will put only a few hours on them a year coupled with greater reliability, commonality with the rest of the 75/76 fleet, and greater payload than the 8, all for a cut rate price!! sounds like a good move!

Does the -8 not have an APU?

They are beautiful airplanes, with a great design. Great wing, and quite efficient with the new engines hung on them.

What does UPS use them for? Someone mentioned domestic, but I wasn't sure if that was correct.

Well UPS was nice enough to install a supplemental heating/cooling system in the cockpit, and it works pretty well most of the time. Sometimes it does rain on the FE during the landing with the build-up of moisture in the duct but overall an effective system.
