UPS letter of Recommendation
#1
I need some advice from any crewmember from UPS. I am a Cap. on the 727 and I have 10000+ total time, 3000+ PIC, Check airman, FE ticket but no college degree. I have a friend in UPS management but I don't know any pilots there. Do you think my qualifications make me a good candidate? I put my app. online in Sep.
How can my friend in management give me the recommendation?
Do I need him to take my resume to HR or how does that work?
Thanks in advance for any information and advice you can give me.

Just ask the guy to write up the rec letter. He can do that by simply going on the employee website and fill out the form. Taking the resume to HR I've been told does no good any more. Of course those rules might not apply to someone in mgmt. HR has told me all people are called for interview by a computer system randomly pulling from all qualified applicants that have rec letters.

Careful of "friends." Sometimes friends are really acquaintances and will not stick their neck out (but will tell you differently). Be sure your friend is close and you trust them. Also be sure your friend is in good standing with his/her boss.

Three things...
#1, Rumor is that the new interview selection is not based on referrals at all. A computer selects candidates based on current needs.
#2, Managers have a way of bending rules.
#3, there is no protocol for taking your resume to hr, it's all online.
Good luck

Everything I have read in the previous 4 or 5 post has been accurate. Something one guys says may contradict another’s, but believe it or not, that is the way UPS works.
The old system worked like this, if your friend is a Manager, not a supervisor, but a real Manager, all he needed to do was make a phone call to Phil Donahue. He is in charge of pilot recruitment. One Manager to another seemed to get things done. Will it work now since there is now a computer making the selections? Id say it’s worth a shot. I can’t see UPS giving up 100%control of the selection process to anyone, or anything. Anyone who works here for more than a day knows that UPS would never do that...
If your "friend" says that he will do it, make sure and follow up on it, people say a lot and then NEVER do it. Protect your career and your future by following up on commitments... Even it they are commitments made to you from others...

FWIW, a friend flying for the regionals (instructor, check airman) approached me asking for a rec letter about 2 mos. ago. After filling out that long form (zzzzz), he got a call a couple of weeks later. He interviewed about 3 weeks after that, and was called 3 days later for the required drug test. He starts class this week. He is in the process of completing his degree at ERAU. I've never seen an application process so quickly. No, I am not in mgt!
