FDX 401K or TSP
Please leave in cargo section..
Just retired from USAFR wondering if it is more advantageus to keep money in TSP or 401 K at Fedex. I am going to transfer part of it (for a loan and pay off some debt)... Wonder if I should transfer all of it or some of it

I recommend contacting a financial planner if you do not have one or call ALPA and use the excellent (free) Schwab money management benefits we have.

TSP
Everything I've heard/read/been consulted says:
TSP is the best thing EVER.
YMMV - I'm a 20+ year Government employee whose job experience is:
Year 1-6 Private
Year 6-16 Government
Year 16-17 Private
Year 17-20+ Government
Enjoy.................
ps. I've signed with a pricey financial planner dude, and they want to keep my money in the TSP. Perhaps it's due to the fact that we're so vested in the TSP (20+ years) and they would not benefit from moving the $$$, but I gotta believe I've got my $$$ in the right place. Please insert boilerplate legal advice here...............

TSP is better than any "civilian" 401k based on all the professional advice I have seen. So much better that many politicians want to put their hands on the TSP system and "restructure it" so it is "more in line with corporate America"
funny how in booming economy, the "in thing" is to avoid government jobs and get on with Next Best Thing Inc. Then in a depression, all those govt employees are the target of everyone else.
soapboxing, sorry

TSP is great, but beware that all states do not treat it the same. NJ, for example, taxes contributions to my TSP. Of course if you don't live in the People's Republic of New Jersey don't worry about it...

If you haven't already, I'd recommend going to Bogleheads Investing Advice and Info and search for TSP
