They go nowhere. Well, maybe they get to go to the country club on weekends with their wife. Some go to the movies. Some to see a play. Some get to fly their own light aircraft. Some go fishing. Some play golf. A lot of golf. Some take their kids to soccer. Some to football/baseball/basketball/gymnastics/ballet/field hockey. Actually, it's the same with a pilot getting on at any major airline. The day they start, is the first day toward the end of their career. It's a dull and boring life, which, by your soul searching question, I'd recommend that you not endeavor to explore.
Seriously, An airline job is an airline job. You start at the bottom of the seniority list and hopefully sometime before you retire, you are at the top of that same list. Equipment and lifestyle are all a function of seniority, as is, of course, pay. At some airlines you can make the transition from line pilot to some other form of company employee, ie, training department guy; check airperson guy; duty officer guy; management guy, etc, etc.
