Wearing a uniform may be a good idea, I did it one time years ago.
It is optional and may help you get through security in Europe if you have liquids, etc.

On the other hand you may want to keep a regular street shirt handy as once you get underway you have the option of remaining incognito. You do not get included on the General Declaration as a crew member and in the other end are subject to the same entry procedures as a regular passenger. At this point a uniform has long since lost it's usefulness and you can avoid the awkward questions and the gawking...

+1 on the wearing the uniform, but changing out of it prior to arrival.

The pilots may ask you 'why are you wearing that'? However, if you aren't wearing it, the crew won't even know you're there. Also, by wearing the uniform, you automatically have more authority yourself - pilots are still respected outside the US.

European gate agents don't see a lot of jumpseaters. When you don't have many options to get home, you should take the best angle available to you.

Candy works for gate agents and ticket counter agents too. That and a smile.

All very good stuff. I JS to and from Europe almost every other month. Most gate agents are not that familiar with 'Jumpseating' but will help you list nonetheless. Bring candy for the FA's. Be in uniform. Use freighters ! (Polar/kalitta etc). AMS is great with a ton of flights to and from the States.

As far as getting through security I find they are a bit more lax in Europe than in the states, meaning no problems being out of uniform.
