Out of respect for National Airlines 102

I can't watch some yahoo lose his teeth taking his skateboard down a stair rail, so when those videos come on........... I take another sip of my beer and I don't watch.

For years, he, and Hiroshi before him at the Flyers Lounge, have had a loop of aircraft accidents. Saber dance, A-7 off the waist cat, B-17s, B-29s, A-6s, F-4s, all of them. Maybe it's gallows humor but guys do watch and do comment. You have every right to boycott the JLC if you feel that way, but Vincent has every right to deny your request and I suspect his business will survive without you. When you find one of those 50 bars that caters to aircrew and where we can meet up with friends that we haven't seen for years....let us know.

What's the statute of limitations on a crash video? Boycott if you feel it's necessary, but I'll be there. Vincent is a good guy and perhaps his time in Asia has dulled him to the sensitivities of Westerners. If he had the FX80 video from NRT in his selection, I'd still go.

When I was in the 95th FS, we had a DO (who I respected very much) take down a class picture, because the class had highlighted a classmate who had died during training in an F15 mishap.
I thought that was a mistake. I considered having a somber, vivid reminder of the stakes in this business a good thing, not a bad thing for our students to see as they walked the halls. Wasn't my call, and the picture came down.
I also thought we in the F15 community whitewashed our mistakes and buried them. When you see an accident occur 10 years after a similar mishap, sometimes having a little corporate knowledge passed down can be a good thing. I would not look at the crash of Flt 80, UPS 6, or the National crash with morbid glee, but I would watch and say to myself "dang--better have my stuff in one sock...today and every day..." I don't go to Naritia, so I really do not have a dog in this fight. That said, I'd put the flight 80 crash on a continuous reel in the AOC if I thought it helped prevent the next mishap.

HotMama....as you can see, opinions vary on this subject, but apparently there's only one that counts....yours. How about this, next time I'm in the JLC, if that particular video appears, and if I happen to be watching, I'll raise my glass and say a toast to the fallen. In years gone by, after the memorial service was complete and the missing man flight was done, we'd all adjourn to the squadron bar, say some words and have some toasts, then "throw a nickel on the grass" and move on. There are way too many things to wound up over these days for me to throw a fit over this.
