Something can be learned from every mishap.
If this was not the case - why even try?

True, but in case you missed the point of this thread, it's when does accident footage stop being educational and start being entertainment. There's not a chance that the JLC is showing those videos for safety's sake.

For you guys who end up at a bar with a stripper pole and insist on using that time to dissect the forensics of an accident, realize that you may have a serious personality disorder.

Don't think Iv ever been with anybody who considered those tapes entertainment. Conversation yes, entertainment no. Stripper pole, never noticed any strippers and I was at the JLC the night he opened.

What about Vincent? Exactly why does he show them?

Regarding strippers, you're not exactly missing anything.

Vincent shows them for two reasons I would guess. First he's a business guy and I'm sure he looked around before he opened to see what others are doing and what worked. In addition he is ex Sabina and has some aviation roots and former lifestyle. Anything that helps us learn for the misfortune of others can be good. Seeing the same accidents repeated over again is heartbreaking to me even when it's not he pilots fault, as is most likely in the National case. However load shift accidents are not new at all and should be preventable. The writers above talk about the Fed Ex accident and how it would be upsetting to see an I agree to appoint. However if that tape was shown it would remind people how even a first rate crew needs to be on their A game coming into NRT in strong winds. No different than showing a guy screwing up and hitting short approaching a boat. FYI others beside Flyers and JLC have shown crash tapes. As for the pole I would rather watch 45 yr old drunk FAs try to sing at The Cage. Thats it for me I'm going skiing...

45 year old FAs in NRT? Yeah. Right. You're off by a generation or so.

As a young regional captain (hopefully not for long), I obviously do not fly to narita, but having had the pleasure of knowing CA Lipka of national 102, I will never in my life visit jet lag club. I contributed to the crash memorial, and will in no way support jet lag club. This was not a crash that was due to pilot error. There is nothing "educational" that can be learned from this crash, showing this crash on some kind of loop in a bar is sick... F- that place...... Thanks for posting potatochip.

I agree that something can be learned from every mishap.
In this case, it is don't fly MRAP's tethered to the floor. That's not happening anymore as far as I know, the decision was made to scrap them instead. The pilot's were in a situation that was unrecoverable, I don't see the benefit in watching them fly to their deaths.

watching them fly to their deaths

Too bad no one got AS261 on video or we could put that to the Benny Hill theme song and all get drunk while watching those guys fight for their lives in an unrecoverable accident as well.

Personally, the last thing I want to do while trying to relax and have a good time is watch six of my peers perish over and over on some looped blooper reel; this is classless and macabre.

I'm glad some of you enjoy the reminder of our mortality. I for one prefer to reflect on the positive aspects of our profession. Those six good men and their families deserve better than this.

Swamp and Rama, you hit the nail on the head IMO. "Educational" my ___!
