The 8 Ball says--"try again"

My guess is that Brown will keep some 744s in SDF and some in ANC. I suspect they may keep some MD-11s in SDF also to handle some EU/around the world trips. I think they aren't sure at this point and are making it up as they go along. Time will tell, but Asia is where they want the heavy lift right now.

I reckon Brown want to keep its options open vs the 380. If nothing else, French panic could give UPS leverage to chisel a few bucks off their order. Or maybe pick up some of FDX's cast off options for a song. The whole reason UPS bought A300s in the first place was to get approval for intra-Europe flying.

Merry Christmas to all!
My 8-ball tells me that UPS will NOT base the 747-400 in ANC as originally planned. The current ANC bid will be cancelled, and a new bid for the 747-400 based in SDF will be out ASAP.
I also see MANY 747-400/800s in our future since the A380 issue, and all of the lift it has promised, is somewhat up in the air (no pun intended).
I am willing to bet a steak dinner at Club Paris (ANC) on this if someone is game...
Payment will be made by May 1st, 2007 (I'll be ordering the special, medium rare WITH wine).

You may well be right, ANC can't handle what they have now, nevermind when ten more Turtles show up. Unless they buy out everyone on the north side of the airport (and re-locate them to boot), demolish the dinky-ass facility we're in now and start from scratch. It makes as much sense to open an ONT MD and 747 domicile. By staging everything from ONT to PVG/HKG/CAN/SYD/CRK etc. and then running the lift back through ANC eastbound, it frees up the ramp space in ANC saving them untold millions in buying land at top prices. Add to that they own a bunch of land west of the current building in ONT would enable them to double their ramp space virtually overnight unless there is some endangered snail darter living there like in OAK.
As for your bet, to hell with it...give me a call when you're here and I'll buy. We're all going stir crazy up here I'll tell ya.

Oh yeah...my bad. The other rumor going around is that they may re-locate the entire op to the ANG ramp which is moving to AED sometime soon. I still think ONT would be the good move, especially for those commuting. If it wasn't for FedEx ANC would be virtually impossible for many. At this point ANC is kind of like that Asian face saving thing...never admit screwing the pooch.

With respect to ANC and 744s, it is a move that should have been made 5-10 years ago. Better late than never.
It was interesting that the head shed was still debating placement of their shiny new 744s right up until two weeks prior to the bid publication.
