Raw example of GoodReader capability...picture's worth a thousand words...nuff said. Original discussion begun in "Fedex APU" thread.

How does it work after its dropped? Or the battery dies mid-pacific
Do you hand it cross cockpit so PM can annotate it? And what do you do if the PM is, well let's say, not quite as adept at using electronics as some of us

The point of this thread is the capability exists to go paperless and, after you've already signed in once on an AOC PC, avoid entering your password three more times on another PC, after you find one that's available and then hunt for a printer because surprise...the PC is not synced to a printer. What a concept if you could sign in on any PC and go directly to your FP/R! AirPrinter anybody? If you're willing it's doable, if not print it. And it's only doable when you electronically sign the FP/R. The idea is to save time and effort and only you can decide which is easiest for you. I'm not here to convince anybody who doesn't already like the idea.
I was downloading the FP/R to my personal iPad long before the company issued them and it was always signed electronically before I got to the folder. Downloading it to the FedEx iPad has the added benefit of copying the route of flight into Jepps. Bam...instant redundancy. As I said in the other thread, I ALWAYS discuss the matter of printing with the F/O and if he's not comfortable, we print. If he is, I ask him to download it to his iPad also...another layer of redundancy.
As I also said before, I have not flown a 4+ hour trip without a paper copy...yet, so for international trips it's still a work in progress. I will continue to carry a paper copy until I'm satisfied the process is full proof and all crewmembers are in agreement with a copy on their iPads. Initially, I think I would try having each PM in turn use their own iPad to annotate their FP/R...nothing says it all has to be done on one as long as it's done. In fact, there's no reason you couldn't do the same thing with a .pdf copy of the plotting charts. As far as being adept at electronics, if you can use the company iPad, you can be shown how to annotate a .pdf file in about two minutes...and then you learned something new that day.
I've also been carrying a "fully charged external backup" ever since we got the company iPads. The other options are to plug into the aircraft AC system using the Australia type adapter or the aircraft USB ports but they'll only hold the current charge.
As for using this technique on a check ride, which some have asked about, I haven't had the chance...yet. But I've talked to a couple LCAs who said they wouldn't have a problem with it. Obviously that's something I'll have to discuss with my check airman at the folder before making a decision. As for the FAA...if we don't have a paper copy and they show up at the jet, I'd explain the situation and if he didn't like it I'd have Flt Coordination or the out station Ramp Office bring us out a copy...no harm, no foul. After all, I'm not trying to get away with anything here...we're still complying with the FOM, just trying to streamline the process.
I've only been using the MoonDoggie11 technique for a little over a month so I obviously don't have all the answers...it's an evolutionary process. Let the feedback begin.

Moon,
As I said before, I like where you are going with this, but like just about every trail blazer who came before you, you're going to get questions about your new way of doing things.
As for..."AirPrinter anybody?"
I talked to one of the Fleet Managers a while back and he told me one of the goals in the AOC update was to set up AirPrinters and charging trees for I-Pads.
Did anyone see the recent Aviation Week that had a picture of 500+ paper Jepp Kits below the hanging Falcon? They said by removing the kits and replacing with the I-Pads we had removed an amount of weight equivalent to our first Falcons.

Only issue is fuel, which can easily be revised, and I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to add fuel in the last 8 years.
