Gemini
#11
I spent a bit of time on the -11 at Gemini -- recently moved on. Most everyone I still know there is attempting to do the same after the recent furloughs/imminent furloughs, etc. Admittedly, that is all third-hand info and perhaps Fogrunner can say some more on what is happening w/ the PFE's and junior folks on the -10 and -11?
Also, have they started making new-hires sign a training contract? I know they did that w/ a couple of the guys in the last -11 class.
I answered: "If ALPA allowed it under the contract, and it didn't put me on some kind of crap/black list, I would.. as I plan to stay for the long haul" .. they subsequently told me that there would be no contract.. I think the DO's attitude is that if you believe in the place, and he can see it in your attitude at the interview, that he'll take a risk on you. In my case, I have hard the stories from ex-Eastern guys that left Delta to go to Eastern back in the 70's only to see their classmates MD-11 and 777 caps at DAL and they on the street bouncing between jobs. I mean, did anyone here predict that HP would be buying AAA? OR looking at adding DAL to their portfolio?
You're only King of the Hill for a certain time in this business.. Pan Am, TWA, and Eastern have all proven that to be all too true. I say take a job, and ride it out.. see where it goes.
Not saying it will happen, but who's to say Fedex or UPS doesn't lose a major contract and have to furlough.. Hope it never happens because there is plenty of cargo growth for all the operations out there now, but the Postal Contract that Fedex got does at some point have a end date, and if they're not competitive, a UPS, DHL, or whom even can get it.. All jobs are more or less not a guarantee in this business, and the way I see it, Gemini can go on to grow into a large and sustainable operation, be purchased by one, or go out of business.. In the end, the company has managed to stay in business and even grow during the worse downturn in aviation history, all the while never furlough a single pilot, and all this while being held by very demanding PE funds that don't like to mess around with low performing assests. I'm financially secure enough to take the risk that they'll be around a long time... if not, there is always other opportunities with someone with my prior experience and the experience Gemini will add will only make it better.

I'm confused.. what furloughs? They've only furloughed FE's in the past, and this is necessary when you're downsizing the 10 fleet, no? These guys are hiring, not furloughing..
I was asked.. "would you sign a contract?"

As I have discussed with CE750 there are some rumblings going on concerning new/additional a/c which I think will surprise a lot of folks. If it comes to fuition, a big if, then people like 750 will have made a very satisfying move.
Home basing absolutely......
Minimums are 3000 total 1000 ME turbine ATP. These are not set in stone.

Hey sure thing Fog!.. and btw, thanks for setting that straight on the furloughs that's my bad, I didn't know. After 9/11 a lot of companies had to I suppose.
Time will tell either way where it goes! I'm always prone to be a glass is half full myself!
Merry Christmas!

I'm interested in applying to Gemini (now that I am current again) and have been looking around for a way to send a resume/application. Any suggestions? Company website not very clear. Also, any Gemini people know if G. Hines is still there?
Thx.

Q check your PM.. Fog, I've got it!
ok Q, I can't PM you so, here goes what I can tell you here..
PRESISTANCE is important.. don't over do it, but you need to get their attention. I'd fedex a resume to their corporate office (address on their website) and put it to the attention of the Chief Pilot and Director of Operations.
Make two copies of the resume and cover letter to include in your fedex packet.
You can email a resume to HR's email on their website, but that's useless.
if you provide me with a way to get in touch with you, I can give you a bit more info.
btw.. I was hiried with not having flown a plane in 2+ years.... currency isn't as imporant as over all experience, and training record (they're not keen on too many fails).
