UPS/FedEx JR Flying

UPS/FedEx JR Flying
When it comes time for me to make the move to the majors I intend on being very picky. I currently fly for SKW and I enjoy my job and company, so I won't be in a big hurry to leave unless I have my "Dream Job." In other words, I will not take the first job that comes along just so I can fly something larger. After all it's not about the a/c, it's about the hole package. The three airlines that I wish to work for are:
1. Southwest
2. UPS
3. FedEx
UPS only tops FedEx because I spent 5 years in Louisville, my brother & sister live there and I love the area.
So here are my questions for FedEx and UPS pilots:
1. What aircraft are most new hires being placed into?
2. How JR is SDF & MEM?
3. As a JR FO do your work the back side of the clock?
4. How do you cope with flying nights?
5. What kind of toll does flying night have on your home life?
6. What's a typical domestic and Int. line like?
7. How long will it take to hold days?
8. Which a/c is better for holding days?
9. How long can a new hire expect to sit reserve?
My uncle is a CA at SWA and does interviews for them, because of this they are my number one, but I am very interest in the security of the cargo world. Please elaborate on the above questions and fill free to add your 2 cents worth on anything you fell an outsider should know about your company.
Thank you for your time & Happy New Year.

JetJock16,
If you search for threads with the words "ups new hire" or "fedex new hire," you may find the info you're looking for, most likely in the 3 most recent pages of threads.
I don't work for these companies (wish I did) but have been doing plenty of research on this board.
Take a look back at some of the threads . . I'd wager you'll find all your info.
Cheers,
spciii

Questions, Questions, Questions
Ask yourself this ... think of the most repulsive and negative answer to each of those questions. Would you still take the job given the WORST possible answers ? ... Most likely ...
Something else to consider ... I am relatively 'young' in this industry. But I will be on my 4th airline (since 1989) when Brown calls ...
1st ... Merged TWICE, is now a figment of what it used to be (turbo-props)
2nd ... GONE completely ... Chapter 7 (RJs)
3rd ... CH 11 three times total. Also merged a few times ... (Boeings, Airbus)
And I have interviewed 7 times for those 4 job changes.
Even the ones I did not accept or were turned down ...
Airborne was bought/merged with DHL
TWA ... know that history ... CH 11, liquidate to AA
North American ... sold to World
My long-winded reply is to illustrate that whatever answers you may be searching for, they will most likely change tomorrow ...
ENJOY THE RIDE ....
Later, CC

Happy New Year to you too! Here's my two cents; Hold out for the first outfit that hires you, just never cross a picket line to do it! I had a call from United in 1985 saying "come on down, we've got a seat in class for you". They were on strike. I told them that I'd be there as soon as their little labor problem was over. I never heard from them again. I've worked for Federal Express since 1988.
You can be somewhat selective as you're working for a company that is well received and one that you like. Good luck to you!

Answers to some questions;
1. B-727FE MEM
2. Very Senior AND VERY JUNIOR
3. Yes
4. It's hard. Now it takes me 3-4 days to recover when it used to take me 1-2 days.
5. Wife and family can't understand why I'm walking around the house like a zombie after I get home.
6. 5-10 day International trips with lay-overs in 3-7 cities. Now usually 24-48 hour lay-overs.
7.There will ALWAYS be a night leg in your pairing,...somewhere. Usually for me it's the last leg of the pairing, returning to Anchorage.
9. Reserve goes very SENIOR in Anchorage in both seats all year round.

Huh?
Let me get this straight ... you're an EMB pilot at a comuter (I have to assume, yes I know that SKW has RJ's; just looking at your avitar) and you intend to be picky when (if?) the majors call? Did I get all that correct?
Thought No. 1 ... are you kidding me? Yes, you should do your homework and take only jobs that have a reasonable long term outlook (I previously worked for a major that has since been liquidated) unless you are quite young and can afford to gamble a for few years and still get 25 years at a major.
Thought No. 2 ... are you a colledge graduat? Your spelling makes me think maibe not? The "hole" package? "I am very interest in"? If the answer is that you are not a college grad, I suspect your chances of getting hired at a major are quite limited anyway and you should jump at the opportunity to go to ANY major.
Thought No. 3 ... I know for a fact that at least one of your "choice" airline picks monitors public message boards like this one. I would hesitate to post items that might make them think that there might be a more qualified candidate (i.e. poor decision making thought process concerning career opportunities at major airlines?).
Best of luck with your job search ... almost everyone on this board has been in your position at one time or another.

I'm sorry Mayday Mark but I just can't help myself.
You are ripping on the guy for spelling yet you misspelled avatar as avitar, commuter as comuter, college as colledge, graduate as graduat, and maybe as maibe.

Oooooops
Dude ... colledge, graduat and maibe were to make a point (I guess you missed that part?). I just bunged up the "comuter" part, maibe too many beers? Ooooops, good thing I already have my job at a major?

I pounded my original posting out rather quickly and didn't have time to proof read. Thank goodness we have members that have the time to act as "Spelling & Grammar Police." Please understand that I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just replying to yours.
I thank you for your 2 cents.
As far as “when the majors call,” well first I must meet their mins and apply before I can get the “CALL.” At this point I realize I’m 2-3 years away from that point. I also understand that I most likely won't get hired the first time. That's fine, when I said “I'll be picky,” I meant that I’ll continue to reapply until I get hired by the airline of MY CHOICE. After all, it’s MY CAREER and MY LIFE. Things are good at SKW and if it takes me 6 years to make it too one of the 3 airlines then fine. I'm young and I have plenty of time, after all I'm only 30.
For those of you who have taken the time to answer my questions, I thank you for your time.
