Nope, we have Airbuses based in Europe and the pilots are deadheaded to/from Europe from MEM.

If the rumors of a pilot domicile in Europe are true, then I would think these D/H tickets wouldn't be an option. You could live anywhere you wanted, but I'd bet a crash pad in Paris would be kind of pricey for guys sitting reserve.

Master of the obvious. Not to sound trite but the reason our A-300 crews Deadhead to/from Europe for their SIBA trips is that they are domiciled in MEM and the revenue portion of the trip begins and ends in Europe. So it only stands to reason that if Fedex crew are "domiciled" in Europe (CDG, CGN. FRA, ZRH or wherever) there won't be Double Deadheads to Europe anymore because you will be based there. It won't be as good a deal as it is now.

fedex 757

Fedex guys...

So is the 757 going to be that attractive in europe when you can still get narrowbody pay in the us with the boeing 3 holer? Seems to me, if you put the 757 in europe, it will go ridiculously junior (except for the guys that live there) and be the new hire aircraft for the fo seat. Yes, it's a nice ride, but give up widebody pay for the nice ride...cmon....we're all pilots here chasin' the dollars...

Actually, that's not a jet Sean flew... the ramp guys took the picture of another plane and presented it to him... as an example, like. ;)

Doh, Come on man! Let me enjoy finally getting something right for once, even if it was via the blind squirrel theory!

If we don't domicile in Europe then it will be the same as the SIBA bid now except for the additional cities. I had heard we want to expand into other European countries and won't have the loads to jusify Busses on the routes. I have also heard our loads are such stateside that we need Busses back in addition to the continuing retirement of the Jurassic 3 holer.

The hub is in CDG and Paris is very expensive. I don't see how a NB FO is going afford to live in/around Paris. Yes, it's good pay, but it's not great pay. It would probably be similar to being in NYC or Chicago or any metropolitan US city on NB pay -- doable but not the lap of luxury. I wouldn't want to live around the places that would be affordable -- you'd probably have your car burned.

I believe the current "rules" for SIBA are 300 hrs in the jet before you can bid SIBA. And of course you've got to have taken the special class. With a new jet, I don't know how that would work.

It'll be interesting to see what comes through on this.

757 in EWR?

I've heard some rumbling about having the European flying crew based in EWR on the new 757s. Has anyone else heard these mumbles? I guess the idea would be to have the crews operate the legs over and back on 75s then bounce around Europe just like the SIBA does now. Saving FDX lots of DH money and adding 75 oceanic lift. However, I had heard that they never wanted EWR to have its own crew base ever again, because of the previous experience with extremely homogenized union views. Just wondering.
