Fedex guys...
So is the 757 going to be that attractive in europe when you can still get narrowbody pay in the us with the boeing 3 holer? Seems to me, if you put the 757 in europe, it will go ridiculously junior (except for the guys that live there) and be the new hire aircraft for the fo seat. Yes, it's a nice ride, but give up widebody pay for the nice ride...cmon....we're all pilots here chasin' the dollars... JMO Pilot7576 That's because you work at UPS. Here at FedEx, we do this job for the betterment of mankind:D |

I've heard Cologne as a possibility. I haven't heard anything about it being in the next bid though? I have heard of a big bid coming out spring 07'; as big as the MOAB we got las yr. I can't imagine anything on the 757's out then, as we're not even scheduled to get the first one's until 09'? or so I thought

If we don't domicile in Europe then it will be the same as the SIBA bid now except for the additional cities. I had heard we want to expand into other European countries and won't have the loads to jusify Busses on the routes. I have also heard our loads are such stateside that we need Busses back in addition to the continuing retirement of the Jurassic 3 holer.
The hub is in CDG and Paris is very expensive. I don't see how a NB FO is going afford to live in/around Paris. Yes, it's good pay, but it's not great pay. It would probably be similar to being in NYC or Chicago or any metropolitan US city on NB pay -- doable but not the lap of luxury. I wouldn't want to live around the places that would be affordable -- you'd probably have your car burned. I believe the current "rules" for SIBA are 300 hrs in the jet before you can bid SIBA. And of course you've got to have taken the special class. With a new jet, I don't know how that would work. It'll be interesting to see what comes through on this. The 757 carries what......? approx 60-75 thousand pounds of frieght? What does the A-310 carry (close to the same).........It isn't much different and that is what is over in Europe right now, 310's....not A-300's. Plus CDG being our hub most of the Aircraft coming in/out are MD-11 (and 777's in the future) These all carry the Wideboday cans. The 757 carries the narrowbody cans. Seems to me this is a step backwards. As previously said, Europe is extrememly expensive to live in. An FO on Narrowbody pay would be hard pressed to have much of a life ......(much less a narrowbody CAPT with a family of 4). without a large Stipend, which the company never intended on paying during talks the last 2 rumors of a European Domicile). Look for it to remain SIBA. It would be better for all of us....... |

1st revenue flight in January 2008. A bid would need to come out no later than Aug/SEP 2007 for a 757.
Of all the rumors I've heard, that's one of 'em. |

Heard that the instructor cadre would come from those who bid the airplane in the next mega-bid... So the process would be: springtime '07 bid and seat award, interview instructor applicants from that pool, train same, then start training the rest of the bid award... starting ug/Sep? Of all the rumors I've heard, that's one of 'em.
