So you give a hard time to some upgrades they could torpedo your chances of getting hired?

My bud was just giving a warning, becuase I was looking at it as an option to FedEx. The scenario: You get hired as a sim instructor (kind of like being FAIP’d in the military), you go to class with 10 FO (with the line experience and seniority) upgrading to Captains. So with none of the experience you make it through the class but don’t do so well and your record gets some extra documentation to say that. Now, 3 years later, you are ready to go to the line and you get the big red X instead because you had a difficult time with the class you went through three years ago. It’s just food for thought and was just a warning from him. He told me that it didn’t have anything to do with ability or otherwise. |
So what your saying is that going thru initial training is the dicey part because of the head start that the rest of the class has.
Did your bud say what it was like for the remaining 3 years? Any idea about commuting for the job? Thanks |
Yes, that's what I got out of it. I think head start is an understatment though.
I believe he like it. He lived in MEM but had a part time AF Resv job |
If given the opportunity to be a pro sim guy you could go to any of the aircraft at Fedex. When your 3 years is up you would more than likely start in the aircraft they are hiring into 3 years from now(currently the 727 in Mem, 8months ago the MD11 in ANC). You will start over just as if you were a new hire. So I don't really know where the other information comes from.

I have a bud who did this, he is now flying on the line. His word of caution was, the course why put you through is for upgrading FO to capt's...guys who have been flying on the line for a number of years...so if you screw it up it may stop any chances to move to the line in the future. |
To my limited knowledge, there are 3 ways to get to the line at FEDEX. If I did not know anyone who would sponsor me I would jump at the chance to go to the training department or go corporate. But that is just me.

If I didn't know anyone here I would get a permanent part time job in the hub for 12 months then try to go to the line as an internal hire.
1 yr is alot better than 3 in my opinion.... Past.... |
Can't argue the math, but the recommendation of the chief of a training department goes a lot farther than the recommendation of a ramp manager. Of course I am only guessing. I got hired for my good looks and outstanding GPA at the University of Maryland Criminal Justice College.
