I am very happy to be here, and even happier to have the opportunity to fly the 727. I am just saying that it is good that some people camp out in their seats, so others can upgrade if they want to.

Again....I have malice towards NONE.
I'm digging being close to captain with 25 % seniority. I don't begrudge anyone for seat camping. I just think this optimizing in out of our hands. Period. I hope our SIG does good stuff for our side. Period.
Albie out....

Knocker: Yeah, I only mean I think that things are going to slow down here, and folks are going to be stuck in their new hire seat for more than a year or so that has been the case over the past 2 years.
Why do I think that?
Age 60 possible change, company hedging their bets.
757s replacing 727s (3 pilots to 2)
MD10s and MD11s and Airbus growth not enough to offset the loss of the DC10. (pilot wise again 3 - 2)
I hope I am wrong, but I think things are going to slow down.

We didn't lose our pensions. Furthurmore, my hope is that folks here are smart enough to know that every year past 60 that you needlessly fly is only one more accelerated year toward your death.
When I'm 60, I'm punching....

It will be up to the line pilots. Again.
I just want to know if anyone else is questioning why our union leadership would not only sign off, literally, on the next stage of optimizing. But actually, direct our SIG/PSIT to "accomodate" it.
Like has been said, over and over. If , the company didn't need our permission. Why did we give them permission with this letter?

The 757 isn't going to initially replace the 727, at least not the -200's.
There's not too many DC10's left. It won't be too long before everyone in the back seat is going to be over 60 anyway. I bet that happens before the last DC is gone. And then the over 60 (over 65?) will go to the back of the 727, which there are quite a few already there too.
Don't forget the 777's down the line too.

So far, the only retirements of 72s is the 9 remaining 100s by May. No 200 are scheduled to retire, so far. Also, the last schedule I saw only showed 34 757s online by 2010, so 75s will not decrease hiring anytime soon.
May not be huge growth, but it will be steady growth.

Pilots being "stuck" in their new hire seat for more than a year; cats and dogs sleeping together; blasphemy. But I suppose you should ask my second-to-latest (sponsored) new guy. He went from the back of the 727 to the right seat of said jet, to the right seat of the Mad Dog, all in barely a year. Sure beats the heck out of sitting somewhere for 4 or 5 years, or 15 or 20 years which was normal at some of the passenger carriers in the 70's thru 80's.
