Maybe they want to get rid of as many age 60+ flight engineers just incase the age 60 rule is changed to 65.
If age 60 is changed, it will be terrible for all pilots, but especially the ones at airlines with flight engineers (FedEx and UPS).

It will be a major hit "if " the guys aged 60-65 can Bid back to Capt. Another 5 years of stagnation. Unbelievable, since there are over 5000 pilots on Furlough. Marion needs her head examined. I guess the ICAO rules the modern world now.

Terrible for all Pilots?
Terrible for some, inconvenient for some, convenient for some, Godsend for some. Glass is not always half empty. FEDEX and UPS are better able to weather the storm; so I also challenge that assumption.
If the FAA rescinds the two tacan rule it will be terrible for all pilots.

What would be bull**** about a UPS pilot still on the property, with the seniority to hold captain and the FAA approval to do so, bidding a captain seat on a vacancy bid and flying it for a few more years? It hurts me as much as anone as the vast majority of them are senior to me, but if the rules change I don't see how it is fair to keep them as FE's if they have the seniority to do otherwise.

It is my understanding that if they are over 60 and in the back seat, they will not be able to bid back to Capt. I have heard this from several over 60 guys out at the ASC. WHo knows what will really happen though.

If this happened, do you think most of them would do this or do you think some would say screw it and just stay FEs?

You can bet the farm that any over 60 FE would return to the front seats if the rule change allowed it. It is only logical.
We don't know how it will all shake out, but it seems that return to the front seats isn't going to happen if you put together what has been proposed and supported by the rulemakers and the majority of pilots and airlines.
