I'm waiting for " only effective on the fifth tuesday of the month, when the moon is full, wind out of the north, with no French visa,......". My head hurts, but Fastbid is worthless in ANC.. What old geezer said; " anyone can fly trips, it just takes a genius to bid 'em"??? Wait! The PA just announced Bingo is starting in 10 min here at the hospital! Gotta go....

In March I will be bidding in pay only due to training, which I should finish up in late Feb. I have vacation in March. My strategy was to bid lines in order of max days off and then highest credit hours, figuring my custom line would be built with that many days off in it. Then I could use my vacation to knock out some of those work days.

Many of those lines though don't pay as much as the average, so I was wondering how many work days I would I get if I bid a secondary line that would pay the average BLG.

Anybody have any ideas on how I should bid this for next month? Will my vacation get canceled if I haven't activated by the bid close? If not will I get to combine my vacation and custom line preferences to minimize the number of days I have to work.

I should have 20 days off, 15 days of work around 90 credit hours. I plan to use about 48 hours of vacation, hoping to actually work 42 hours or 7 days. Is there any chance of making this work with a custom line after the month starts and all the open time is gone? I won't activate until the very end of this month or very early Mar.

Any comments, advice or spears would be appreciated.

Thanks.

See section 25.I.1

Basically, you get an R day value for each day of training (class or sim) and the higher of sch or ach for IOE trips and they will preserve the max days off that your pay only line had.

Your vacation should be preserved as it doesn't conflict with training. See section 7.C.3E

You will get the value and days off on a secondary line that the original flying line was built for. For example, you will have a pay only secondary line and a flying secondary line. Take a look at the bid awards from previous months. Your pay only line will mirror the flying line in pay and number of days off except there will not be any trips. I would not bid this way.

Use fastbid and put as your number one priority max days off regardless of carryover since that will go away. If you don't want the lowest paying line with 20+ days off, then delete it manually. I would rather have a 20+ day off line that's just 5 credit hours below average than work 4 more days (16 day off) to earn that 5 credit hours. Bid max days off and pick up one extra day of work. You'll now be ahead of the game.

That is what I was wondering, what would the work schedule look like for a secondary line when you are pay only. I definitely will stick with what I did, which was bid max days off lines in decreasing credit hour order. Hopefully that will get me the most days off at the highest number of credit hours.

Now, what do I do in early March when I activate and I want to use my vacation? How should I order my preferences for that custom line? Do I have them build the line and then "apply" my vacation or will they just work around the vacation as they build the line? I'm assuming that my vacation will add to the number of off days on my line (based on the trips I can knock out with my 48 hours or so).

Anybody had to do this before in a vacation month?

Thanks again for the replies.

My guess is that they will determine how many days you owe them. Then subtract your vacation days from that number and you will work the diff.

Similar to a regular secondary line with vaca....
