Now THAT's funny!
Huck, Either way I'm not waiting for those baby's to come up by themselves. If I decide to go around, the throttles are going up. I'll let Betty catchup. I'm not sure what all this talk about the Md-11 being unsafe is about. I've flown the Maddog for almost 9 years and it does have it's challenges, but I don't think it's any different from any other acft. You learn to deal with it's shortcomings and go from there. Even before the software to correct the nose pitch up on landing was introduced, you knew it was going to happened, so you made the proper inputs to dealt with it. Of course this only my humble opinion!

BTW, I'n one of those that overide the ATS, especially the MD-10-10. It works for me.

Huck, By " speed protection" I actually meant the speed the A/Ts were set to hold, not the control logic or alpha protection. A poor choice of words. I think A/Ts are something of a safety feature in this regard but they are slow to respond in some types of situations and must be overridden, assisted, or off.
Part of the problem is that it seems there is a reluctance to add enough wind additive in gusty conditions to set a proper target speed. Assisting the A/Ts with the understanding that they are still on seems a compromise that many have found to work well.

Thanks for your well informed and educational post, it was a good read.

That's very true Mark. I do remember the catering on the bus sucked, so what's your excuse for being a fat body? Well, I guess the bus is still a widebody.

OK now you are getting personal. Bottom line the 11 looks kewl and the Bus DOES NOT what else matters?
The alpha brothers on the bus have to have conditions to work. The low speed on the MD works 100% of the time. I disagree with the landing technique at FedEx but what do you do. It's their airplane I'm just the operator and I like to pass Sims.
My understanding is that they have you cross control at 300 feet so the auto throttles have time to adjust to the extra drag. If you did it in the flare the increased drag without more power would increase the V/S without the A/T being quick enough to help. I guess FedEx assumes we can't figure that out so they want to fly the plane like the autopilot does.

CaptainMark now that you have disowned your Harley Club members and bought a Jap bike how is the transiton going? French Airplane and Jap motorbikes. What is the world coming to.

I'm sure glad you maximized the joke value out of what I wrote. I thought Albie's was pretty funny too.
