Your best bet is to delete the rest of your post to avoid everyone else trying to explain to you what the real world is like.

I don't think you are an idiot, but you don't understand what is going on.

The company knows EXACTLY what the crewmembers can and cannot do with their bids. It's up to the crewmember to bid the line that results in the highest paycheck. If the crewmember is not legal for that line, it will not be awarded.

Just because the system is complicated and offers good deals does not mean it is not "right" to work within those constraints. There are some times when the system fails to give out what is fair too.

If you are looking at the deals offered at other jobs and comparing them to FedEx....don't. Just because most other airlines are screwing their employees does not mean FedEx should screw theirs.

No, you're not an idiot, and I think most folks when they walk in the door felt pretty much the same way.

Then, you learn. After you find yourself working 29 days in a month due to fine print in the bidding system (oops!), or lose half your paycheck reimbursing the company for an int'l airline ticket due to a technicality (nothing like paying for the privilege of repositioning on company business), or other myriad examples that you hear from time to time. Eventually, the light bulb goes on and you realize:

It goes both ways. Companies aren't shy about "getting more" when the contract favors them. Contracts are complex, and a little education goes a long way. On both sides.

Thanks for all the info. The bid was right, those below me that bid the lines I wanted were in training, but I am pay only and they are not. Thanks for helping out the "bidding challenged".

I think I still ended up better off since I got BLG as a sec line holder instead of RLG as a Reserve guy.

The only protection is the limitations on how many days in a row we can work in the ground phase, and how many days off in sim phase--verbage in Section 11.E.5 (too wordy, and I'm too challenged to cut and paste).

After activating, they look at ground events and IOE and figure out custom line based on your BLG for the month.

Just searched thru APC.

I finish IOE on the 4th of DEC.... The new bid month starts on the 6th. So what's the correct game plan for bidding in DEC. I want to maximize days off..... My IOE does not fall into the DEC bid month...so no credit for days worked. I get 6 days off (or so) after IOE...

So should I just bid for max days off? Will they just smash all trips into the end of the month? Anyway to get Xmas off via bidding?

Thanks in advance for your help....

Bid for max days off. Submit a custom line request with your druthers before IOE ends. Your month will be built from trips in open time and RA days. The month they build for you can't have less days off than what your line has regardless of CHs.

Especially for Dec, count and make sure that what they give you meets your days off number (they use the number from your block display). I've had them give me 4 extra days of work once but they removed them after I pointed out my days off number.

If able, ask for trips that block in after 0100L (assuming you're not hub turning); that will count as another work day. Once I got 3 SEA afternoon departure trips; worked 6 days but counted for 9.

KF - thanks for the great info...Just wanted to make sure I had it correct...

FDXCapt...appreciate the contract ref. But I ask here to get real world experience....reading the scheduling portion can be confusing to say the least ... and lead to headaches and confusion.
