I guess the upside is you never really have to worry about making your commute on your day off. Having that extra night or two at home every period would be nice.
Well, it is what it is. On the other hand, home basing is worth its weight in gold. Especially if you've spent most of your career commuting.

I disagree! It's worth something but not its weight in gold.I typically only commute once a month to my base in CVG. Not a big deal!

$900 round trip in first class from the west coast times 12 is $10,800. Commute twice a month $21,600. I would rather have the extra $1,000 to $2,000 a month in my pocket!

Most people commute more than that. Once a month? I salute you.

How do you only commute once a month?? How about the commute home? Commuting sucks, home basing is the only way to go.

Southern Air 777 pilots are home based.

When I say commute once a month a rational assumption is I am talking round trip. You'll notice I quoted a round trip first class ticket to determine some monetary value of home basing.

I've heard home basing at ATI being worth 40k a year! I'd take the cash in a heart beat. As mentioned before we get the riff raff tickets. So the company only spends about 18k per year on them. The higher priced travel is for the combi and those aren't added into the equation because you'd have to airline to them regardless.

Especially, the third world airlines in South America. Admittedly getting the free goat after the 4th leg was a nice gesture.

Or in the Middle East. Like diverting to Libya when all O2 mask deploy for some odd reason.

It all depends upon where you are commuting from also. Not everyone has your easy commute.

A short commute home like ATL to MCO? or ATL to RSW? You could literally sit all day in Atlanta and not get on one of those flights, that's a lot of added stress. Especially over the course of years. Same goes for some crazy 2 or 3 leg commute if your trying to get from a place like Idaho to the East Coast. Definitely worth at least 20K/yr-25K/yr in my opinion, even more so if your getting first class seats.

On the flip side... CMH to DTW? or ATL to LGA? Not that hard of a commute, CMH to DTW can be driven also.

I realize this may appear to be a dumb question but here goes...

Does lower-48 to Alaska count as an international segment for positioning to ANC?
