Default ATI stuck on ramp

Whats going on at ATI? I hear you guys missed almost a dozen flights in one week for the big "A" due to MX. Thursday ATSG was looking for outside lift in a hurry. Probably only rumor!

You guys will attract the wrong kind of attention doing business like that. Dont you guys share MX with ABX.

Hadn't heard the outside lift. Not sure how many missed cities. ATSG is giving ATI junk aircraft just off lease. Yes, its the same maintenance for ATI and ABX in the cornfield. Varies in the out stations.

Dozen? Yeah it's rough right now.

Don't know about outside lift.

Yeah we share with ABX and ABX has bailed us out A LOT lately.

HOWEVER, in ATI's defense we have taken on some 200's that are in rough shape. ABX hasn't had to deal with the same issues as us. We were cut thin v-e-r-y thin years back by management. Planes, pilots, ops people, everything was cut all the way to BAM's (bare @$$ minimums).

Getting new people up to speed is tough. Then throw is some ragged out POS 200's that would serve Mankind better coming out the back of a brewery and shazam you have the key ingredients for problems.

FedEx bought ragged out POS 757s and refurbished them. They don't seem to be having reliability problems.

The difference is ATI doesn't have a choice on airframes and what condition they given to ATI. Let alone who works on them.

In defense of our brothers at ATI...we can blame those ****ty airframes which came off lease from Amerijet. Sounds like a management change could stimulate some success......we at ABX understand the management issue.

That's apples-to-oranges. Most of those 757s came into the P-to-F conversion process from carriers like United, where they had been well-looked-after. And ST Aero gave them major checks as part of the conversion process. The aluminum cans -- I mean lease returns -- came back on property after being operated by carriers who...well...you know. And they were then put into service quickly and run into at least some stations not otherwise served by ATI (like SCK), which means that everything and everyone involved in overnight maintenance there was essentially new to the company and the particular aircraft.

This does, however, tend to prove the point that Amazon wouldn't be well-advised to try to do something themselves with the Florida West certificate. Doing a 7-day-a-week scheduled operation smoothly is a very hard task. It requires a lot of tribal knowledge, and the various components need a lot of time working together before they will be able to operate reliably, much less do things like cover and recover from irops. I'm not even sure that someplace like Connie's has the operational depth to do it well for 20 aircraft. It's not just about hiring more pilots; they have to be brought into a scalable framework, which ATSG of course has. Personally, I think that Amazon would be massively stepping in it if they tried to scale up a Florida West, and I hope they're smart enough to recognize that and appreciate how good they have it with the ATSG carriers.

Has anyone seen anything tangible on this? I have a hard time believing it.

Since they have a distrubution center - center and little internal structure why not have the ACMI crowd fight it out. Save on payroll taxes and benefits etc. Plus not mess with the feds or be the direct target of potential labor actions. Its a win win.

Two trashed 767s, horrible maintenance, and that lovely south florida attitude of getting it there......eventually

i wouldn't worry about it!
