FDX jobs
I might be getting a job @ ewr to unload the aircraft on the weekends. would a job like this help me as far as being able to apply as a pilot @ FDX when I meet the mins? Would it be worth it to accept and keep it?

When as an "Internal" for FedEx, you must work there for at least a year before you can apply for a job transfer (i.e. from ground guy to Pilot applicant. If you meet the mins and you have kept your nose clean, you will be pretty much assured a Pilot interview. (doesn't mean assured to pass it). If you need a year or more to get the Minimum flight time requirements for FedEx and your current flying job will allow you to work for Fedex than it would be a good thing.
If you are hell bent on coming to FedEx, and have no sponsor or Pilot friends here, then it is certainly a way to get your foot in the door.
If having 2 jobs works with your family situation go for it. In the mean time, you might get a job offer with CAL (and based in EWR) or DAL. It appears things are once again on the Up tick and hopefully everyone will be hiring soon.

I'm working on my Instrument/Commercial right now. Still in school, and thank the good lord, single. I want to be single unitl I am finished with school. Have another year left.
Then I guess I'll take the job. I'm going to try to work weekends up there if I can. BTW, I want to be a "freight Dawg" flying wide-body A/C internationaly. I have a lot of ex girlfriend scattered around the globe. One particular in South Africa. Thanks all.

I worked for FedEx ground sorting packages for about a month in the middle of the night, when my classes went started at 9 and went to 9PM. I ended up late for the job for a few shifts. The manager told me "if you can't be on time, you need to quit". I ended up quiting with out my 2 weeks. How bad will this effect me?
My class schedule is less hectic this semester, so I'll be able to be on time. I've been working as a server @ Applebee's and it sucks! I really want to get the job unloading the A/C @ EWR.

First of all, FedEx Ground and FedEx Express are two TOTALLY different companies. So, if you get hired on as a ramper for Express in EWR, you will get a totally new employee #. Re-hires @ FDX Express (work there for a while, leave for a while, and then come back and are successfully hired) get their old employee # back, yet their seniority starts from their most recent hire date. The whole leaving without your 2 weeks thing may or may not be a factor. Personally, I don't think it will be that big of a deal. When you go to the Express hiring location, be cool with em' and emphasize your desire to be a ramper, you will have to disclose your 10 year employment and living history, so, they are going to know that you worked for Ground, if they ask about it, tell em the truth, and tell em' about your new schedule. FDX Express allows $3,000 a year for college tuition reimbursement. Lastly, I'd simply pray about it and leave it up the good Lord above, worked for me, I was able to go straight from the street to the ramp, usually they put the new hires in the Hub, like at a conveyor belt, not out on the ramp. I have enjoyed my time as a ramper, and have learned a lot, I hope you get on, it can be a lot of fun.

I suggest you give flight coordination in ewr a call. There is a guy there who was a US Air pilot who is trying to get on with us as a pilot. He's been there about four years and I'd bet he could give you a wealth of knoledge on internal hires at FedEx

BB, good intel. Did you PM the guy with a name and phone number. That might help him out a little more than just saying "give flight coordination in ewr a call." I'd do it, but I don't know who you mean.
