UPS Sets Schedule, Possible End for Airbus A380 Order
Feb. 23 (Bloomberg) -- United Parcel Service Inc., the world's largest package shipper, and Airbus SAS agreed that either company can cancel a pending order for 10 A380 freighters and set a new delivery schedule for the delayed jets.
Airbus gave new dates for when the planes could be ready, and Atlanta-based UPS will decide this year whether to retain the $2.8 billion order, UPS spokesman Mark Giuffre said in an interview today. The companies won't provide details of the accord or the revised schedule, Giuffre said.
The future of the A380 superjumbo freighter has been in question since November, when FedEx Corp., the largest air-cargo company, canceled its order for 10 of the planes after repeated production delays. UPS is Airbus's only remaining customer for the freighter version of the A380.
