I know one guy who is highly qualified as captain in the B737NG (and other Boeing types) was hired as a captain, and then they told him when he finished training that he wasn't qualified to be a captain. If you knew this guy, you would know what a joke that is. They obviously hired too many captains and not enough F/O's, but instead of admitting their mistake they told him he wasn't qualified to be a captain and they would make him an F/O. He quit on the spot and took a 767 captain job. These guys are not to be trusted.

VF32TomCat 06-28-2015 11:55 AM

The statement below is not true. The CP and the DO, told everyone that they will be training as capt, including OE, but as soon as the Pilot finishe training, they will be FO. With FO pay until the next airplane shows up. And they can hold capt posición.

Thanks for the real scoop. I love when people quote or cite information from what is just as accurate as the teller from the 7-11.

METO Guido 06-29-2015 05:26 AM

Speaking of Spanglish, New Eastern has been spotted doing the Cuba shuffle - Koo-bah if you care to say it like a mijami local. Promising to move your seat left as the next a/c gets delivered eh? Good plan, if they arrive and somebody pays. Start-ups are a spectacle of sorts and I'm certainly looking forward to this one. Baseless rumor, hearsay, innuendo, whispering campaigns, out right conspiracy theory; what's not to love?

Hou757 06-29-2015 07:42 PM

Do they even have a website for people to book charters? I see no contact info anywhere..

I'm sure they are working for travel companies who actually selling the tickets.

Flyetops 06-30-2015 05:05 PM

They actually have sales people with experience. I know the head of sales at Miami air went over there.

FLYMIA 07-01-2015 07:19 AM

Does anyone have any info on when they are going to start hiring FO's? When are more aircraft coming in?

F4E Mx 07-01-2015 08:40 AM

MIA never changes does it? Start up, go bust, find new suckers, repaint the airplanes, start up, go bust.....You would think at some point the FAA and airport authority would fumigate the place with roach killer.

2nd airplane end of June..., did it happen?

Yes, the second airplane is already on property. Third and fourth airplanein August "(one at the beginning and one at the end of August)" .

ULLI 07-13-2015 09:37 AM

4 planes....not to bad. Do they have business for them besides low yield Cuba charters?

NG pilot 07-23-2015 06:05 PM

Now with the second airplane on property, Eastern picked up some more flying to the Caribbean, and some rumors of South America flying, but nothing concrete. I'm in training with them. And I can say that thing are good, more airplanes and more hiring. They want to have five airplane by December. So far looking good. Very happy to be here, good pay. Time will tell.

What a Joke!

What a joke! As a former rEAL Pilot, it amazes me that so many people here believe this is somehow a resurrection of the former Eastern Air Lines. I was a twenty-four-year-old Eastern flight engineer on the B-727 and A-300 back in 1989. On March 4th, 1989, the IAM called a strike against Eastern Air Lines, and the (honorable) ALPA pilots of Eastern joined in a sympathy strike alongside our fellow union members of the IAM. To somehow suggest that the "new" Eastern is in anyway reminiscent of Captain Eddie's Airline, is a gross misunderstanding of the legacy of the "real" Eastern Air Lines and it's former employees! Although the logo is a familiar site, the real Eastern Air Lines died when it ceased operations on January 18, 1991. Although I have worn the United Air Lines uniform for almost eighteen years, I will always be proud to call myself an Eastern Air Lines Pilot. Walter J. Brill, Jr.

What is FO pay at EAL? I can't find anything posted on web about pay.

That's because it's so low it can't be posted. You know, like when a TV is on sale for such a low price online you have put it in your basket to see it?

Kinda like that.

Brokeasspot 08-08-2015 03:26 AM

If it's any lower than what I make right now, it would be a write off on taxes and I might come out ahead!!!

Thanks for the update Coke. They're being pretty coy about the plan for all those deliveries. Any hint as to what's intended?

Thanks, are most guys living near MIA or any commuters?

Brokeasspot some pilots are commuting and some are from around miami like Orlando, Tampa , homestead . The long commuters are from LA, NY, NC and Virginia.

Brokeasspot 08-10-2015 04:18 PM

Thanks for the reply, I am based in MIA now for another airline and commute. Would like to move on and eventually to the Miami area, just now sure how expenses would work at first. What is upgrade time looking like? Is the 1,000TPIC requirement pretty firm?

Eastern Named UM Athletics' Official Airline
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami-based Eastern Air Lines has signed a three-year agreement to become the “Official Airline” for University of Miami Athletics, Hurricane Sports Properties announced Tuesday.
"Eastern Air Lines is absolutely delighted to once again be affiliated with the University of Miami, as the ‘Official Airline’ of Miami Athletics,” said Ed Wegel, Eastern President and CEO. “This initial three-year partnership with the ‘U’ will re-affirm Eastern's commitment to our hometown of Miami and to a very successful Miami athletics department.
“We look forward to welcoming Miami Hurricanes teams, sponsors, and fans on our aircraft."
Eastern Air Lines succesfully re-launched in 2014 and today operates three aircraft in charter for professional sports teams, as well as operating a scheduled charter operation to Cuba with over 80 flights per month. Eastern also operates charters throughout the Caribbean and Latin America. Eastern will have a fleet of ten 737 Next Generation aircraft in operation by year end 2016 and has an order with Boeing for twenty new 737s.
Duffy House, general manager of Hurricane Sports Properties, called the partnership “exciting.”
“It’s exciting for us to play a role in reestablishing a relationship that goes back many years. We look forward to a mutually beneficial partnership with Eastern Air Lines for years to come,” House said.
Eastern Air Lines Group, Inc., was formed to re-launch Eastern Air Lines as a passenger airline using Boeing 737-800 aircraft from its main base of operations at Miami International Airport. Eastern Air Lines headquarters is located in Building 5A at MIA. For more information, visit www.easternairlines.aero Eastern Air Lines Group, Inc - Airlines in the United States[/url]

Good markets. So good the tomcats already in them will kick your kajones to Kansas if they even suspect you're angling for a piece. Look north, aggressively expanding LCC's & the consolidated heavy hitters. South you got Copa, Avianca, Latam and Gol. I just don't get why anyone would put a dime in this crap. Then again, I went to the U.

Looks like they have picked up some guys from Miami Air:

Cool feedback, thanks man. Couldn’t have come at a better moment either. Correctly so I might add! Until further notice, METO’s comments restricted to low blower.

I would absolutely love to get on with a new company where everyone was trying to make it a success. However, my biggest questions and concerns come in the form of "What is the intended future of this company?"

From the interview with CEO Ed Wegel in Airways News:

AN: What do you hope the airline will look like five years from now?

EW: I think that five years from now, we’ll be operating a very good charter division with eight to 10 737s. We’ll also be effectively employing MRJs for ourselves and other airlines, along with operating between 20 and 25 aircraft out of Miami. We will also provide a maintenance operation and a flight training business.

Is this place going to be a real airline or become another regional with a few 737s (ACA clone)

As much as I was hoping that this would be the next JetBlue, or grow to a point that might start to rival it's former glory, I don't think that is what is going to happen based on the current business plan.

JetBlue is the hometown airline of the largest O/D market in the WORLD. New Eastern ain't ever going to be JetBlue.

That statement is correct, but that was back in Dec 2014, now everything has change, the new projection is to have 45 airplanes in 5 years and 650 pilots. I really don't know how Mr.EW is going to make it happen, the company need to have a class every 2 months and a new airplane every two months. So far EW is doing it. Only time will tell.
We do not want to be Jet Blue , we are Eastern Airlines.

What kind of airplanes though? If you are talking all 737s and scheduled service, that's great. If you are talking about only charter stuff for the 73s and contract stuff for the MRJs (if they ever even get certified), then that is a completely different future.

Well the aircraft are B737NG and the MRJ, the B737 will be the main airplane and the MRJ will be a regional jet but with a long range that can go from MIA to SJO or SJU when the seats on the NG are not sold out. For now we are charter operators , but june next year is program to go schedule service ( where?, we don't know ), at the same time he plans to have a charter division. In 5 years he plans to have 45 airplanes. We already have 3 airplanes and the fourth in October .
The hangar is already on the contractor hands, and the First B737 simulator is to arrive in January, According to my boeing friends on 36st in Miami. What Boeing has to do with Eastern , well Boeing is leasing the space plus MX services For the sim to EAL.

Are you guys enjoying having your aircraft trashed by the Cubans, gum in the seat backs and in the emergency cards, and basically treating the aircraft like a taxi? How many life jackets stolen so far?
Hey, they make a good raft, if they get enough of them!
