Default Commuting Policy

Maybe I’ve missed it somewhere online, but can someone fill in the details on CommutAir’s commuting policy? I’ve found the articles mentioning that there is some form of company paid travel for commuting, but they’re all scarce on details.

I currently live right in between (about 50 minutes each way) two airports that have a couple C5 flights a day. I have to stay here at least for another year or two for my wife’s job. I’ve been looking at some of the Part 135s/Fractionals that have home basing, but I’d really prefer to go 121 if I could. My biggest priority right now is finding a job that makes commuting the easiest it can be (tough I know).

Any details on what that company paid commuter policy are would be greatly appreciated!

You can qualify for a certain number of reimbursement credits per month, based on seat, seniority, and bidding window. Each credit is worth $100. Credits for F/Os top out at 1/2/3 if you bid min/normal/max credit, respectively. Captains get roughly twice that. If I'm reading it right they can't be used for reserve.

Appreciate that info.

On a related note, would commuting be possible from some of the Gulf Coast out stations? Looking at IAH as a base. My closest options are MOB and PNS, which both have a few C5 flights a day, plus PNS has a couple extra flights. I also have the ability to stretch to Panama City/Destin area and Gulfport if it was necessary.

It seems to me the positives are a lot of those flights would be operated by C5, but the negative is not many flights a day from any of the airports. PNS has the most at I believe 4 flights plus a southwest flight in there to HOU. I unfortunately will have to commute for at least my first year from where we currently live due to spouse job requirements. As such my main priority is the most commutable regional I can find.

C5 will be the better choice, your own metal commute and most trip are really commutable as a guy who commutes from the east coast

Default ORD/MDW

On the topic of commuting, is Chicago to DEN or IAH relatively feasible in terms of commuting? Or would mainline commuters make it a nightmare?

ORD-DEN as a commuter? If you’re new, might as well walk.

Why wouldn’t you go to a regional that has a base in ORD and drive to work?

The ORD bases seem to be senior. Basically, it looks like commuting is inevitable for the foreseeable future.

I presume ORD-IAH would be "easier", relatively speaking?

Commuting from ORD is really easy to both hubs. So many options you won’t have any issues.
