Another question about upgrade time
I’ve read through quite a few threads about upgrade time but with how fast things change I thought I would try and get the most current info I can, here’s my question(s):
What’s it looking like for upgrade time in any of the bases (I’ll be commuting from Sacramento so domicile doesn’t make too much difference) for someone with the required upgrade mins already?
My back story:
I have about 3.5 years of previous 121 time, right and left seat, I’ve been chasing the paycheck around at charters and now air ambulance trying to support a family on single income and now I’m possibly in a position to get back into the airlines doing whatever it takes since the majors don’t seem to want to pay much attention to someone who’s recent aircraft is a king air, understandable. The only thing is I don’t know that I could swing second year FO pay without the bonuses since I would already be looking at about a 40% pay cut with the first year bonus. I really want to get back into the airlines and I feel like if I have to go back to regionals Compass or SkyWest is the place to be for someone living on the west coast. I could probably make FO pay work a little longer at SkyWest but really don’t want to be commuting to DTW or DFW for ever after upgrade there.
Thanks for any advice anyone may have.

Although it can change, right now upgrade is pretty much 1000 121. You would have a $7,500 signing bonus and upgrade as soon as you have the time if you don’t already. You will sit reserve for awhile but they will fly you.

My gut says we’re in for a captain shortage as our FOs haven’t met the time requirements. Wouldn’t surprise me if we had some near-street captains in the fall again. If you’re okay being on reserve for eternity, getting hired now and putting a captain bid in might have you upgrading before 2020.
That said, this whole company is a question mark come 2020
