Same here, except I interviewed a month ago. An email? I guess a letter is too much to ask for. Also, when are you allowed to re-apply if somone would actually want to? Most airlines it's a 6 month wait.

4andCounting 01-09-2010 09:57 AM

I can't believe they are taking that long to get back to you. Thats not very professional. Does anyone know if all the spring classes are filled yet? I keep getting questions sent to me and I have no idea where they are at with hiring.

New Hire Update.

7 new hires to DTW
5 new hires to MSP

pinkpanther 01-10-2010 10:04 AM

There were 5 or more FOs that transfered from dtw and mem to msp, this has been the trend for the last few bids, so if I were a newhire I would expect to spend atleast a couple months in dtw or mem before you can hold msp, if that's where you want to be (this is what happened to me). Reserve numbers have been increasing and decreasing in each domicile month to month, so there will continue to be pilots in the bottom 20% chasing lines.

any new news for compass?

4cast 01-13-2010 09:40 AM

Hi can anyone answer this? If someone got hired today, how long would they sit reserve and how long before getting into delta mainline? thanks!

atpcliff 01-13-2010 10:12 AM

Hi!

I think the requirement is Capt and 3 years with Compass before elligibility to transfer to DAL, and then 20 per month, with a yearly cap of "XX" or "X%" per year to DAL. So, it will depend on how much hiring DAL does, and if you can upgrade to capt within 3 years.

Bottom line: Like everything else here on Earth, no one really knows, not even God, as he gave us Free Will.

The flow is a maximum of 25% of the list per year. So starting at the bottom, assuming that Delta started hiring immediately and hired continuously, you would not flow until your fourth year. You also have to be a Captain to flow (pretty much guaranteed if you're senior enough to flow, just gotta pass the upgrade), and you need to have flown for Compass for at least 30 months.

So basically, if you already have your turbine PIC, you'll get to Delta a lot quicker by staying at your current job and not coming to Compass. It's not a shortcut, the only thing you gain is not having to interview at DL, and that's a poor reason to subject yourself to this management team for 4+ years.

As far as reserve, it all depends on growth and attrition. Right now there's a little growth for increased aircraft utilization, but that will end in a few months, and there's zero attrition. If Delta were to hire and take 25% of our list this year, you'd find yourself off reserve pretty quickly. All depends....

I just spoke to Dianna, the pilot recruiter in MSP. She said, 40 more new hires for 2010, all in the first quarter of the year.

thanks for the info!

Does anyone have contact info for HR?
I had an app in the system, now it's gone. My profile exists, but there is no application.

I'd like to find out what's up. An email or an phone #, anyone?

Quick update

Online window opens again Feb 15.
If you know someone here, have them send a letter of rec to HR. This will get your application sent to the top for review.
Last application cycle: 10,000 applicants. Currently 2,500 apps needing review.
HR contact phone numbers changing; moving to Building C at MSP.

No LGA or ATL base. MEM is reducing to 30 crews, down from current 34.

EFB is evolving; soon crews will only need headsets and a flash light!

Thats all I got!

EFB is evolving? The EFB was evolving back when the first class was hired nearly 3 years ago. We are a long LONG way away from just headsets and flashlights.

I've been hearing this too, however I do have doubt since I just spent a large part of my young life on that forest clearing revision to change to the new jepp format.

Are they hiring more pilots in addition to the 60 some guys or is that part of it? So, if I got turned a few weeks ago after the interview for whatever reason can I re-apply if I wanted to? Took 11 months to get a call for an interview the first time around....

Similar question to Spoilers. I had an application filled out for a year with an internal rec. and never heard a peep. Finally got a rejection letter a week ago saying they are pursuing others. Never said that I could re-apply in X months or that they'll keep my app on file for additional openings, etc. What's going on? I guess I can have my buddy send in a third internal rec.

HercDriver130 01-15-2010 01:40 PM

so....you are saying they next window for apps is Feb 15th?.... okay, cause the website is not accepting apps for pilots at this time.

DappemAV8 01-15-2010 03:45 PM

I'm only the messenger in this case; only sharing the information I was told directly from HR. I have no information on total numbers, just a class every other week through June (skipping a few weeks in April or May, I think). And from what I understand, the web site will not accept an application till 02/15. (this is just before the Women in Aviation Conference which they are attending)

Now, for the rumors:
Apparently there are 300 Delta north (NWA) pilots slated for retirement in 2010. Compass now has eligible pilots for the flow. So, 300 retirements, higher utilization, CP Ca's to flow, Delta "loves" the product, I would imagine more than 60. If I hear something, I'll pass it along.

meyers9163 01-16-2010 02:15 AM

I wonder.... How many current Compass pilots with their Turbine PIC time and heavy jet experience will be sticking around here in the near future... It seems with places like Airtran annoucning hiring, Evergreen, Emirates, DAL planning on potential hiring, Jetblue (who knows rumors have been out there); that many will leave at their first chance. Sounds like things could get interesting there real quick as far as staffing if things indeed continue to look positive as they do now.....

RoughLandings 01-16-2010 06:14 AM

Uh, yeah, Compass will be in a world of hurt as soon as some airlines start hiring again. Everyone on the line knows this, but our management team has its head buried in the sand, hoping that it can entice enough people to stay...

4andCounting 01-16-2010 10:32 AM

Unless somthing breaks loose fast at Delta, the FO rates are so low at compass that I don't think keeping the large portion of furloughed folks from leaving to go to other airlines on the roster will be possible. I don't know many people at the airline yet but from what I've seen so far there is a lot of people that still hold seniority at other airlines that could still go back if calls start going out this year. That I guess would be good for everyone on the compass list. Faster upgrades for the young guys that want to stay. Flows for the 30m+ guys. New Jobs or recalls and better pay for the rest.

It is not accepting applications, because the next window opens on FEBRUARY 15th.... It's only January!

Eh, just apply again. Their HR department is very unorganized they might call this time around.

JungleBus 01-16-2010 11:55 AM

I could see 70% of the list quitting within about six months once things start moving again. Why would you hang around this place any more than you have to!?

UltraFlyer1982 01-16-2010 12:14 PM

If you are furloughed, do they make you resign your old seniority number at your former employer?

meyers9163 01-16-2010 02:02 PM

If there are any Compass pilots whom would not mind answering a few questions could you drop me a PM or let me know? I am currently an FO over at PSA and needless to say been sitting 2nd from the bottom in base for sometime now and am considering a lateral move if ever offered a chance. I just would like to get some input from some whom might have done this as well and or anyone currently there. Thanks in advance!

4andCounting 01-16-2010 02:14 PM

I was not asked to resign my number. But then again, Midwest isn't really an option to go back to.

bubi352 01-18-2010 05:24 PM

I am going to ask this question again. Has any of the pilots hired (other than 4andCounting Midwest pilot above) been asked to resign their seniority number at their previous airline?

Thumbs882 01-18-2010 05:45 PM

No, I was not asked to resign my seniority. The only time I even saw it mentioned was on the online app. It never even came up in my interview or my first day of class. Furloughed...Comair

cfitstew 01-18-2010 06:27 PM

I was never asked either. Never came up.

bubi352 01-18-2010 06:57 PM

Thanks guys.

shiznit 01-20-2010 02:16 PM

any word on hiring?

flyboy2136 01-20-2010 04:07 PM

Ya, they are still hiring.... not sure how many more, but i got called last week for an interview. The rumor is that they are hiring through spring, but that is just a rumor, and could change im sure.

maxjet 01-20-2010 07:49 PM

Was called by a friend at Delta who just had recurrent. They told him to expect to see 800 pilots hired after the training is completed on the SLI movements. Should be great news for the Compass Pilots if it happens. Good luck guys!

I will believe it when I see it. Until the summer they are way overstaffed! Yes I hope it is true but I will not hold my breath.

the latest mark up in YOY capacity increase put us "tight" on staffing. This JAL deal is a game changer though. Lots of widebody flying projected and thus will require alot more pilots. the uptick in the economy is adding to this as well. See the below for clarification on whats coming up in regards to JAL

But it would take time for JAL and Delta to get approval from US authorities for joint operations, he added. JAL’s bankruptcy filing is just the first step in what is likely to be a long and complex overhaul by the debt-ridden carrier, which aims to slash more than 15,600 jobs and axe unprofitable routes to staunch massive losses.

JAL, which reassured passengers it would continue to operate flights during its bankruptcy, made no announcement regarding its talks with American Airlines and Delta Air Lines when it unveiled its turnaround plan Tuesday. But just hours after it filed for bankruptcy, both US carriers issued statements saying they stood ready to support the once iconic airline. “As JAL becomes slimmer, Delta would provide many flights,” said Yoshihisa Akai, head of research at Japan Aviation Management Research, an advisory firm. Not true. We are overstaffed in certain seats, but not overall. I have friends who are 320 FO's who are getting called on their days off to fly. And 747-400 CA's are being denied No Flying Lines while also being called on days off to fly.

I just talked to a 744 CA who got 120 hours of credit last month because they are so short on 744 CA's! Do the math, he made more in one month then most Regional FO's make in their first year!!
