Default Cessna Citation Columbus coming

Cessna has posted its "large cabin" bizjet, the one that was shown in mockup at NBAA convention last fall. I doubt it will deliver before 2014, but the preliminary specs and order spots are now available. $27mil is the price tag. I suppose it aims at intercontinental corporations and rich individuals who want a cabin a bit larger than Citation X, giving Cessna something to compete with Gulfstream GIV, Challenger 600, and Falcon 2000 among others.

Columbus

Actually it was named after Christopher Columbus. Reason being that Columbus circle the globe.

From their website...

http://columbus.cessna.com/downloads.html

"The Citation business jets we build are known across the globe as the Sure Thing. The more you think about it, the more it just makes sense that the largest business jet company in the world would build one of the larger, most capable, comfortable, longest-range business jets in the world. When the time comes for you to set sail in your own Citation Columbus, you can do it with complete and total confidence"

Also if you watch the little video at the end it is the logo of a sailing ship.

They should have called it "Drake" or "Magelland." Columbus mostly circled the Atlantic.

Well with some 4000nm behind the Citation, it should be able to do just that, hop the Atlantic.

It looks pretty nice, I know the guy pretty well that came up with the renderings and art work for Cessna.

in the time frame for its line duty of 2013 the falcon 20 upgrade or 2X super midsize will be out for less as well as embraer's super midsize, the columbus will be here for the long hall because of cessna's reputation but I do see a shift to the super-midsize market by then because of fuel cost and price and capability, just my 2 cents

Cessna Columbus is in no way a unique design for a business jet. It is a good proposal as far as intercontinental business jets are concerned but it is in no way novel or unique. Its appeal stems from the competitive advantage Cessna has as a premier manufacturer in parts supply, pilot training, airframe service, and overall customer satisfaction. They know this and are banking on it. The Columbus design itself demonstrates nothing new besides perhaps higher engine efficiency. For Cessna it is a first attempt at a large business jet, will almost certainly be a success, and even has some early orders on file. What amazes me is that a delivery spot means a 6 year wait. I guess large companies tend to look far forward in their transportation needs.
