Hey guys, quick question for you. I got offered a Job at a Part 91 company. . . I have not talked to the insurance company yet, and I fear that I may not be insurable for the position. . . I would love to get your opinion.

So heres the info. . .
Part 91 2 pilot operation.

Aircraft 1: King air 100. I will be flying this aircraft single pilot PIC.
Aircraft 2: Learjet 35A. I will be co-captain on this aircraft.

Pilot:
1500 Total, 850 Multi, of which 650 is Jet SIC in a RJ (Regional pilot). . . 100+ sitting dumby seat in the king air 100 a couple years ago and 50+ish SIC in the beech 1900 (another regional).

I got my Comm. multi, and all the CFI stuff (I don't think that matters tho). And two SIC type ratings. I can not get my ATP do to the age restriction so I think this might also be an issue. I also have 0 lear time.

Not sure what they would say about the king air pic single pilot, but they should buy off on the lear.

Thats funny, I thought it would be the other way around. . .

I should clarify one thing. I will mostly be flying the lear with the other pilot however when both aircraft fly at the same time we will be split up, therefore if I am in the lear on that particular day I would be the captain flying with a contract guy. If that changes anything. . . I also wouldnt have my ATP when I get my type, so hopefully that doesn't ding me.

shouldnt be a problem..... i have a friend from college flying a B200 now and he had about the same time with NO turbine time at all.....i believe the insurance requested that the first 25-50hrs be with a instructor on board tho

At the end of the day, you're probably insurable. The issue at hand is how much is the company willing to pay to make that happen?

Can't you get your ATP while doing your type-rating??? I always thought this was something that just took one extra sign-off during that training.

As far as the insurance deal, that's on the company. They should've never hired you if they didn't think they could insure you, or afford to pay an extra premium for you. Just the way I see it.

The person who hired you should have had this figured out before offering you a job. Why are you charged with contacting the insurance company?

Doing the math, it appears that you have 50 hours of PIC multi-engine time and no ATP. I agree with ce650, right seat in the Lear will not be an issue, but single pilot in the King Air looks like a tough policy to underwrite.

Exactly -- it all depends on the insurance carrier. And as was mentioned, why are you having to figure this out and not your employer? The employer is the one who knows the details of their policy and has the relationship with the insurance company.

I can't get my atp because I'm 22 (as of last week). . .

I guess my post wasn't that clear. The job was mine before it even became vacant, one of those who you know type things. He said they will hire me if the insurance company will go for it, he and hopefully myself will contact them next week after the pre buy is done on the lear. . . I was just curious what to expect.

Another question:
The other pilot is a seasoned lear pilot so I dont think they will have a problem throwing me in the airplane with him. However when he goes to fly the other aircraft or goes on vacation or gets sick. . . Will the insurance allow me to be PIC of the lear with a contract guy?

I seriously doubt the insurance company will insure you as pic on the lear without the other guy. Low time and no time in type being the reasons. It really depends on how much your company will pay for insurance. Why doesn't the company just put you in the King Air when y'all have to be seperated?
