It's spelled "Discrimination."

I don't think so. Maybe you are in the minority, but not hated. Maybe you should encourge your buddies to post more.

Yea I do a few months ago I applied for a straight 91 gig flying a westwind that friend recomended me for. I talked to the captain on the phone said everything sounded really good. Next day talked to the Boss man on the phone said it all looks good just work it out with the captain. Few hours later talked to the captain again. got on the subject about age found out i was 21 and said, "oohhhh i dont think the boss would like that." I asked why said they had been burned by a young pilot before. I dunno so anyway that was the end of that.

While I dont see any discrimination, I do feel like a fish out of water. Had never been exposed to this stuff till joining the forums. Been a great learning experience for me. Heck, I am just about ready to be a airline pilot. Thanks APC.

Pretty much everything this "captain" did was against the law in regards to hiring. People have been sued for alot less.

As for discrimination, I get it the other way. Once the airline stink is on you, it's almost impossible to get it off regarding corporate.

Against what law? Sued for what?

If the owner or "boss man" desires age, maturity, experience, etc. and entrusts his/her senior captain or chief pilot to recruit and select to a minimum standard, then it is his or her prerogative.

The ADA has a threshold of 40.

Our corporation has several former airline pilots. Diversity in experience is just as warranted as diversity regarding age, gender, ethnicity, and religious orientation. There never was any "stink."

Some corporations are always going to be reticent to hire younger, less experienced pilots because the corporation knows that they will not receive an adequate return on their investment.

I think Sbaker means a bias on APC against corporate pilots, not discrimination against corporate pilots in general.

As far as on APC, I don't really think so. It is called Airline Pilot Forums. I think if they had an issue, then we wouldn't have our own forum. If you think about it, there are posts from 121 pilots wanting to go 91/135.

Corporate and airline pilots hold both everything and nothing in common at the same time. There are a few on here who are fundamentalists of airline or corporate dogma, and have a negative view of the other side for whatever reason. I don't think the majority of members, the mods, HSLD or Freight Dog feel that way.

I wish more corporate/135 people would post here.

Ehhh, guess they are not equal opportunity employers. I could understand their reasoning behind it.

Cool

I look at it this way, There are those that ride Harley's and those that ride sport bikes. Same thing just a different culture. There are several x-airline types with my company, and as a whole they do a good job. It takes a while to get them to understand that it's work. Load the bags, get the coffee, file a plan ect. I have seen a few of these guys "wash out" because the 91/135 environment didn't suit their tastes and felt that it was beneath them. Most of my clients in the 91 world don't want to spend the money on an x-airline guy because there is always the fear they will get called back.
Just my thoughts on this.
