May I Fly Your Falcon 900?!?! (PLEASE!?)
This is to all the Falcon 900 drivers out there...
I am looking for something positive to focus on so I figured why not ask about my dream airplane, the Falcon 900. 3 engines looks cool...I like the idea that if you lose an engine you are still a multi engine airplane!!!
I have noticed the cycle of getting an FO job on a cool type rated aircraft...you must have x amount of hours in type...but you have none in type because everyone requires you to already have time in type.
***Would it help my cause if I bought a type rating in one???***
So I was just curious as to how those of you who have made it to that Falcon 900 how you got there...did the company upgrade ac? did you start on a smaller ac and work your way up with in the company? Would it help if you bought a type rating in one, even if you didnt have time in it. I know the DA900 type is $37,000. Whatever details you can provide would be nice.
Thanks all.

There are lots of DA900 pilots unemployed right now, with hundreds or even thousands of hours in type. Also, a type rating without some real time in the aircraft is about 100% useless.
And why the Falcon 900? Its a reliable aircraft and is easy to fly...but the 3 engine performance is far from impressive, nevermind 2 or 1 engine....
Unless you have tons of cash to burn and really enjoy intials at FlightSafety -- I'd go drink that 37K right now and wait this one out.

You can fly my Falcon but you have to buy your type and fly for 15,000 dollars a year!

Please do not run out and buy a type, it lowers the bar for all of us. Training is a cost of doing business and $37-40K is a drop in the bucket compared to the overall costs associated with larger biz jets. Also, as stated above there are plenty of guys out of work now and I bet more than a few of them are Falcon pilots. I suggest the old fashioned route -work your way through the system starting on a small a/c or turboprop etc. and with time (hours & years), connections, and some luck you will get where you want to be.

Ok, I will fly your Falcon 900 for 18 days this year, and I will even wait for you to get on board before each trip if you want. But you better hurry, there are only 15 days left this year
