USAA Flight Department
#2
When I used to instruct at KDVT in Phoenix, they used to fly in almost daily..was either a GIII or IV. The airplane would usually come in the morning and leave in the afternoon. I remember one of their pilots saying that they also fly to SanAntonio alot.

I'm resurrecting this almost 3-year-old thread to see if anyone has information about USAA's flight department. Googling got me a little information such as they are or used to be part of the San Antonio Area Business Aviation Alliance and their mailing address might be:
USAA Flight Operations
10500 John Cape Rd.
San Antonio, TX 78216
That's all I can find now. Like many corporate departments there's no mention of it on their careers pages. Does anyone else have more info such as current fleet, hiring opportunities, etc? I've been a member for 22 years and wouldn't mind working for them, but they flat-out said I'm retiring too junior to be one of their execs (they want O-6 and above, apparently) and otherwise am no good to them since I'm not a CPA.

They have two planes I believe:
2008 Dassault Falcon 2000EX
2004 Gulfstream G-400
Based in San Antonio however have major operations centers in Phoenix, Colorado Springs, Tampa, London and Frankfurt.
Lots of travel between San Antonio and Phoenix as the Norterra campus is bascially an extension of the McDermott building.

In 30 years of corporate aviation, I've found there is nothing quite as good as putting on a suit and taking a resume to their office. Exit off 281, to Jones Maltsberger Road, right on Paul Wilkins, left on John Cape, just east of Landmark Aviation.
Yes, this is a little aggressive and yes, an appointment would be nice, but you never know until you try. I'd bet most of ex-military and open to meeting you. I have done so many times and the worst was, "sorry, but the Chief Pilot is not available at this time, may I take your resume?" Every Chief Pilot and most Directors of Aviation have been in exactly your shoes at some time in their careers. Keep that in mind. One Chief Pilot in KTEB told me that he promised himself, if ever in the position to listen to another pilot, he'd give them 15 minutes. He then said, "here's your fifteen minutes and would like a cup of coffee?" No offer came of it, though.
You are ex-AF, see if you can contact any old squadron mates, friends, UPT mates, one of them might know someone who knows someone. Stranger things have happened. I asked to interview for my present position thru an old squadron member who I had the chance to do a favor as his Ops O. That one favor was worth gold.
We hired last summer, over a hundred resumes--only two internals recs, both hired. One rec was entirely unsolicited, the individual and us were all surprised. There is no substitute for networking and having a good reputation.
