CJ3 Pulse Lights
#1
I'm being lazy by posting this question, but maybe someone can save me from looking it up in the manual. My company just purchased a 2007 CJ3, but I don't go to school until June so I'm still unfamiliar with the systems. Here's the issue:
When the aircraft if connected to an external ground power unit with both the battery and the avionics selected on, every 5 min or so the exterior pulse lights come on for about 10 sec or so and then go out. The landing lights switches are in the OFF position.
Does anyone have any insight on why this occurs? Thanks in advance.

I don't fly a CJ3...but that's pretty freaking weird. Our CJ2+ has LED lights and we don't see that at all.

Nothing else is abnormal. It almost seems like it's supposed to happen. If it was a short or something I would assume that it would be more erratic, but the timing is perfectly spaced. The GPU is set at 28.5 Volts and 1000 Amps and the event occurs on others GPU's as well.

Thanks. If it doesn't happen to you in the CJ2+ there must be something wrong. The systems are almost identical in the CJ3. I've got a CJ2+ FlightSafety Manual in front of me and there's nothing in it about this issue.

I would bet money it has to do with your TCAS. Pulselite is set up to turn on automatically when you have a TA (or RA.) I am surmising that when you are sitting on the ramp with your avionics turned on, another airplane taking off nearby will appear on your TCAS and then activate the system.

Thanks everyone for your help. I just found it in the book. If anyone cares to know, on aircraft equipped with the Automatic PulseLite System and TCAS II the lights will activate inflight or on the ground when a TA or RA occurs. Now I can get some sleep.

Very plausible explanation, but how do you explain the part about the timing of the episodes being "perfectly spaced"? Have you disabled the TCAS to see if the flashing stops?
