Hi guys, first post here.
I'm current in the jet I'm presently flying, but not current in the specific plane the owners are interested in buying. It's been 6 years since I've flow this newer plane, I am Typed in the plane and I have 13 years experience in this plane with 135 check rides every one of those 13 years. My Type is for a different model than the newer model and the Type rating covers both models. I have all the manuals in hand to study before school and I think I can do a refresher instead of going through the full initial again. All I really need is some extra time with differences and avionics and I know I can fly the plane in the sim.
The question is this, do I really have to do an initial school instead of going through just a refresher? Is this a Fed's requirement, or something from Flightsafety or the insurance company?

Sounds like a recurrent in the newer model should cover it. I was in the same boat as you.

Pt. 135. it gets a bit trickier. If it has been over 36 months since your last check ride, you'll have to do the initial. I just experienced this with a CE-550. I was current Pt. 91, but it had been over 3 years since my last 135 ride, so I got stuck with the whole enchilada. The most boring couple of weeks in my life.

I went 5 years between recurrents in a specific type, neither FSI nor the insurance company cared. Another 3 week initial would have been a painful waste of time.

Painful and expensive, I have done several recurrents with a long duration between my last flight in type and not that many hours on type and all went smooth. Once you get in the sim its all good, might feel a bit behind during systems review but put the effort in to hit the books, it's worth it.

Got to love the gentleman's courses where they cram 10 days of material into three weeks.

Thats the first half of day one. Guess we have to justify the 55K initial cost?

God willing there will be no/few more initials.

CJ2+ Initial (single pilot) at FSI was 16 days, plus one day and $3k for an additional 61.58 crew check.
