Default GA in NYC

Hello everyone.

I'm single-pilot part 91. The boss says he may want a trip to New York City next week (1 overnight). We usually operate in the southwest and this would be my first trip to the NE, so I was wondering if anyone had insight to the best (or easiest) airport for in-and-out for general aviation. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.

MMU is probably easier to get in and out of than TEB, but ground transport to Manhattan is faster from TEB.

There's also EWR which is pretty easy, but 1. expensive and 2. prone to EDCTs.

As much as I hate to say it, KTEB, from a practical sense, is the best IMO. It only takes me 20 minutes, on a good day, to get to upper mid-town. I've flown to other airports and the commute time is outrageous.

Default TEB

You wont have any issues going into TEB. I fly a king air 90 part 91 single pilot and have gone into TEB several times without any issue. HPN is another option but every time I go there it seems like I get vectored around forever. If you use fltplan.com, after you file the flight plan go back to fltplan.com and look and see what your expected clearance will be. It will be a full route clearance more than likely. Write it down, it will make getting your clearance from clearance delivery so much smoother. What I like to do is get my expected clearance off of fltplan.com and put it all into foreflight so I can have a better idea of what is going on.

Wow, thanks for all the replies! That's really helpful.
Dufur: good tip. I'll be sure to get the clearance off fltplan.com.

One other thing, if your staying in Manhattan you probably just want to get a "limo service" to take you there and back. I think it was about $90 each way for a Cadillac car and $115 each way for a Suburban and that includes the tolls and I believe tip as well. The tolls and traffic are ridiculous in NYC. We use Meridian as the FBO and the limo service we use is "Black Car Express".
