I don’t think anyone is arguing his authority, there is concern that his authority could be used to make a point and/or punish someone for not getting the vax, not necessarily to ensure safety.

There are already policies that limit captain’s authority in regards to the Jumpseat without demeaning him as a captain.

Except there's a difference between Captain's authority and behaving like a bag a feminine hygiene product.

The latter is not an excuse to govern/dictate the former.

The problem is that in this case the nature of the behavior is in the eye of the beholder, it's not clear cut one way or the other.

Could be, but it's a slippery slope. Who's going to make the change? The company? That will be a nice precedent.

The union? They wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, because they'll pizz off somebody in the process. It will be a carefully worded memo... hell, I can write the gist of it for you...

"There have been a few instances where... we recognize the CA's authority in the matter... we understand your health concerns and that some pilots have at-risk family at home... please consider the viability of our jumpseat agreements... many pilots from our company and other companies rely on the JS... we ask that everyone weigh the issue carefully and we're confident that you will all make appropriate decisions based on your personal circumstances while respecting our mutual jumpseat agreements to the maximum extent possible."

If you're an MEC member, feel free to copy/paste.

But honestly I think we're discussing a fictional plot... this behavior is going to be so rare or non-existent that nobody will bother to address it.

Except in a case such as this, there be a lot of eyes beholding.

Good thing this guy is retired.

I seriously doubt If this guy was still active he’d have the ballz to follow through with his keyboard warrior status.

Imagine if so. Shows up for a trip, FO isn’t vaccinated, he removes the FO and calls the CP/scheduling demanding they find him an FO that’s been vaccinated. Then said FO has to prove they are. Which isn’t a big deal, but you think this moron realizes what a can of worms/rabbit hole he’d be going down?

Meh, disregard, probably not....

I don’t think they’ll take the authority away from the captain but I could see a company or union memo stating we aren’t allowed to ask health related questions to any passengers including non-revs and jumpseaters.

Study reveals that mild COVID cases induces last antibody protection -

https://www.sciencedaily.com/release...0524110135.htm

researches are now being funded to see what affect the three US vaccines have on a different range of volunteers but mainly looking at people whom already had the virus and if vaccine is needed. The science is catching up.

Exactly. Although by stating they can't ask, you are taking away the ability to refuse due to it.
You can have any color car you want, as long as it's black.

FWIW, I flew with someone who apparently had COVID (asymptotic at the time) shortly after my second shot. Spent 4 days together, mask less in the cockpit..... He became symptomatic after the trip. I got NOTHING..... I also tested negative after 6 days from last contact. Maybe low viral load while in contact with him or maybe the vaccine worked..... Who knows? If it was the vaccine, perhaps close contact doesn’t matter???

I’d like to think the vaccine worked. I’d also like to think antibodies work. Studies are starting to support both.
