Default Long Covid Overblown

Probably no surprise to most of us here. From WSJ (the rest of the article is paywall)...Long Covid is real. I have reliable patients who describe lingering symptoms after Covid infection. But public-health officials have massively exaggerated long Covid to scare low-risk Americans as our government gives more than $1 billion to a long Covid medical-industrial complex.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims that 20% of Covid infections can result in long Covid. But a U.K. study found that only 3% of Covid patients had residual symptoms lasting 12 weeks. What explains the disparity? It’s often normal to experience mild fatigue or weakness for weeks after being sick and inactive and not eating well. Calling these cases long Covid is the medicalization of ordinary life.

Just an anecdote but my sense of taste was altered for over a year following recovery from Covid. Peanut butter used to be one of my favorite foods, but for over a year it tasted/smelled almost rancid to me. What’s strange is that even now that things are back to normal, every so often when I open the peanut butter jar it smells that way again, but just for a few seconds. Weird virus. It will be fascinating in the years ahead to find out exactly what it’s doing to the body and why. Hopefully they’ll continue down the path to a universal coronavirus vaccine to offer some protection against both Covid and future variants of the flu.

When they all started saying, "There will be long term issues from this disease that we only just learned of!", was when I officially check out on anything the jackholes in DC were saying.

The best was when they were referencing "Long Covid" in like April 2020...

We had a County Executive who "resigned" because of Long Covid effects. Low and behold he was just sent to prison for embezzlement. Long Covid my a.ss.
