Default Commuting from Europe

When I was based in NYC I flew with a handful of pilots and quite a few flight attendants who commuted to NY from various European cities. My family and I are now considering a relocation to Spain for a year and I'm in the process of gathering information. If there is anyone who has experience doing this, I would greatly appreciate information about finding long term housing rentals, how challenging it is to secure a resident visa, schools, cost of living etc... Thanks in advance

I'm curious as well.

Not quite what you're looking for, but there is a provision in the contract for Personal Leave - of course at DL's discretion.
Don't know if you're spouse is working, that could be an option.

Truth is some people who say they commute from Europe really have a foot planted firmly in the US. Makes for interesting small talk saying you commute from the old continent, but when you get to the details it's not quite what you think.

Looking forward to doing this ourselves in a few years, been doing some research ahead of time. Keep in mind you can typically only stay for 90 days on a tourist visa unless someone in your family gets a work permit. Otherwise you have to vacate the EU (Schengen zone) for 90 days and come back.

Good tips here ... https://www.nomadicmatt.com/travel-b...-than-90-days/

Our general plan is to hang out for 90 days at a time and then come back home or hit one of the non-EU countries for another 90 then return. Who knows, sounds like a fun adventure and seemingly works best for those working one or two trips a month to minimize the commute.

Or you could just overstay your visa . It works here.

Spain has a "golden visa law" that allows you to get a resident visa if you purchase a property for €500,000 or more (plus tax). After five years, you can convert the visa into permanent residency.
