Hey guys, potential February class new hire (waiting on official class date)...I currently live in MSP and a buddy shared this AE projection. The goal is to get back to MSP at some point but I'm not in a huge hurry. I'd rather enjoy what I fly and have a somewhat descent QOL/commute. Any suggestions? Are they thinking the CSeries is going to go junior on the west coast?

ATL commute is tough. Some do a 2-leg commute through “secret airports.”
737 or MD would be your quickest airplane to get you back to MSP. But caution- MSP has been a shrinking DAL pilot base for a couple of years.
C-Series won’t be here until you’re out of seat lock, 2019-2020. Even then, it will be a new type of aircraft and seat locks won’t be a factor in bidding.

DTW is not bad from MSP. NYC is easy, but the commutability of trips is not as nice as DTW.

First you’d have to get a class that has 73N. That’s a crapshoot as to what airplanes are in each class. MD’s are pretty much guarenteed. 73’s, not so much.
Then you’d have to have an AE post within 6 months of your start date. I used to be common to get an AE once a quarter at DAL. Now, we haven’t had one since May of 2017. Lots of people have been interested in swapping bases in the 7 months since then, only to be awaiting an AE that has yet to come.

Per Crew Resources, MSP is currently fat by 141 A320 pilots. Between 2017 and 2021, MSP will have 172 mandatory retirements. Unless I'm missing something, MSP isn't going to improve much for a while.

As i recall, MSP was around 3300 positions when we merged. Id say the base shrunk by more than half in the last 10 years. While there have been fluctuations, the trend is undeniable.

ANC- 70-747
DTW- 250-A320; 160-A330; 160-744; 210-757; 150-DC9
MEM- 85- A320; 50-DC-9
MSP- 320-A320; 25-A330; 200-757; 120-DC-9
SEA- 90-A330
Looks like 665 CA's so call it 1330 total give or take a few.

No idea where you get your numbers. DTW was NWA's biggest base. When we merged NWA had around 5000 pilots total at all 5 bases. Crew resources posted the growth in every base not that long ago. MSP was up about 4%. Delta had 7000 pilots for a merged list around 12000. If MSP had 3300 pilots the NWA list would have been 12,000 all by itself.
