Why was Delta such a inept poor airline before RA took over? Did the employees get together and all decide to do a better job? Why did Delta have something like 24 years as the number 1 customer service airline and drop to near dead last after Ron Allen took over. Did all the employees simply decide to perform poorly?

This. And when you go through bankruptcy the disgruntled are weeded out leaving the optimistic employees and they have been rewarded nicely and are pretty much happy and satisfied. Especially today.

This is partially true. Having vacated a sinking ship in a different industry, many of the optimists fled for greener pastures. Often the optimists are the top performers and have good job prospects elsewhere, assuming they are not hamstrung by a seniority list like airline pilots.

Yes! Nothing like layoffs, temps and increased workload to improve morale. If you want your severance package, train your replacement on the way out.
